Vikings looks like such a fun unit!

My son loved playing preschool last year but the second year, he got bored too. It’s more like a continuation of what the first year was and he’s way beyond that. So we had to stop as well and he was ready to read so so we’ve been focusing on that. But I can’t recommend that curriculum enough! It was so fun for him the first year! I would love to see the inside of the Teaching Reading book though!

We use magnatiles and build words with dry erase markers, dry erase boards, hooked on phonics app and workbooks, abeka ladders, Usborne readers, play games, etc. My son is not like sit and do one curriculum. He gets bored and is always needing change. My son may have (what I suspect) OCD (which I also have and the constant need for change and never being satisfied is a very OCD symptom). He has plenty of symptoms for it and he’s also just a busy boy. Both my boys are. So i am following the guidelines of the hooked and phonics order of what to teach, but not just teaching it with the app and workbook. I’m adding in all kinds of other things. Although he likes the app and workbook from HOP, he would never be able to do it every school day. He needs the change here and there.

My youngest learnt to read by 1- me reading to her all the time, and 2- playing Teach your monster to read, she loved it because it was a game, teaching phonics etc but in a fun way, within a couple of weeks she was reading independently and fluently.
