I am new to your channel and watching from the U.K. great video Sir . When you was digging the trench to put your conduit in surely you could have used precast concrete cable cover tiles that would have given you protection against anyone going through the conduits as a electrician in the U.K. that is what I use and it’s good another for all the inspectors i come across . Great work you do 👍🏼

Nice job Ron, I've never seen anyone put those expansion couplings on the side of the house. It makes sense though because I see PVC all bent on buildings from the sun. Nice to see someone labeling the circuits for the next person. The only thing I did notice is the feeder wires inside the 3/4" conduit. I thought anything over 4 current carrying conductors needed to be derated so the wires should have been #10 in my own opinion. 310.15(B)(3)(a) It works- keep up the good work!!

Was taught to always use cleaner on PVC and on the grounding of pool metal trough we always scraped off paint on at least or one side to make a better connection. Smart placing labels on top of 3 outdoor boxes because you know the supposedly heavy or forget if the NEC says extra heavy duty covers are required but we know they will never last the what 15 or so years of the pool.

@@electricalron it would be cool to do a live together pick your brain and nerd out on code! Lol what's your thoughts here, red brass to a pool light gets broken, obviously it should be re threaded and stubbed back up above 8 inches or water terminate in a listed pool light box blah blah ... wound you find it acceptable to: re thread it, attach a pvc female and change over to pvc but clamp a pipe clamp to the brass, and run a # 8 to the junction box with it? Thoughts Also for context the pool deck,belly steel and all the equipment light transformers, pumps heaters etc and all the other # 8s would all be properly bonded together I know it's not a common fix, but would it meet intent of the code?

Cool subject, Ron. I enjoy the variety of jobs and topics you cover. That skimmer electrode seems like a failure point to me though. Eventually the pvc or whatever plastic the skimmer is made of will crack around the mounting screw, but I guess it will outlast the life of the pool. Also, when sinking those posts into the concrete base you might consider driving a short piece or two of rebar through the base for a more secure attachment. I’ve seen posts shrink from weathering and pull right out or become loose over time. Two pieces or more of rebar push-fitted into the post at 90-degrees would prevent that. But again, the pool probably would fail before the posts ever did.

Hey Ron nice clean work! Just wanted to ask about the ground wire you ran. I think I heard you said you ran 1 Green THHN wire through the conduit that you attached at the pull box on the side of the house to all the other bare ground wires? Then when the Green THHN wire got to your metal box out by the pool you joined that 1 wire to 4 different insulated ground wires that ran to each box and the timer?

Yes sir. I actually had a customer, just the other day actually, tell me not to worry about bonding around the pool because he wasn’t going to pay for that to be done because he said the materials cost was to high. I told him it’s a code requirement. He said to hell with the code. He also didn’t want a time clock installed either. He said he would just turn it off and on manually. He said all this after I had ran power to the pump location. It’s just a 120 volt pump and a led pool light. I did bond the pump to the equipment grounding conductor but I could not get him to pay for the materials to bond around the pool….So I just did it anyway. The only thing I didn’t do was install a time clock.

I have a : In ground Swimming pool ( Black & Decker 2HP Variable Speed Pool Pump) 110 volt clothing washer & 220 volt dryer. I want to install a Square D Panel/ Sub panel I just need help in finding the right way to installing these items without messing up. also what is the best way to route my wires using which piping. EMT conduit pipe or PVC conduit pipe or Liquid tight All these will piping will be going from outdoor to indoor since my main panel is outdoor in my backyard. What breakers is needed for all these items listed above and do I need to get a gfci breaker for my pool pump. Do I need another panel to run the pool pump and later on add a pool heater. Items I already have in my possession is: Washer Dryer Pool pump 2awg Cooper wire (4 wire) Red, White, Black & Green Any help will help I greatly appreciate it to the fullest. I want to start this project this coming Thursday since I will have a few days off. Thank you hope to hear from you really soon. Stay safe and blessed.

The equipotential bonding grid is terminated at the pool filter motor. There's a copper grounding terminal normally located right beneath the wiring compartment.
@thereefaholic
@thereefaholic 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and it’s also bonded to anything metal within 5 feet of the water. But why size conductor bonds the grid to the main service panel? Just the ground for the 20 amp circuit or something larger? You still need a ground back to the source to make it electrically safe .
@electricalron
@electricalron Жыл бұрын
@@thereefaholic Yes, the solid #8 AWG gets attached to the bonding lug on the pool pump motor. The motor is wired with a #12AWG equipment grounding conductor. Any fault current would flow on the #12 AWG back to the panel and eventually to the source (the utility transformer).

Hey electricalron, excellent video! On our installation the pool only has a steel wall. The top cap, bottom rail and vertical supports are all resin. Where the wall comes around to meet itself, it is joined with a row of nuts and bolts in a vertical pattern. I have been told that a lug attached to one of those bolts would be sufficient for bonding rather than 4 points around the pool. Do you concur? Everything else would be the same as your project with 8 awg copper wire going to the plate in the skimmer and to the lug on the pump motor as well as around the pool in the ground. Hoping to pass inspection! Your opinion would be much appreciated . Thanks brother, Terrence
