This is a great video! does the FP- terminal wiring to the DC common only work for inputs 0-7 and there is a separate DC common for inputs 8-15? or does FP- cover the commons for all 16 inputs?

In this case FP+ and FP- covers all 16 IO points

Hi Johnathan. That is a tough one. If you mean something such as a Raspberry pi then I don't encourage the use of them, even in schools. It gives you a false sense knowledge that will be hard to relate to when you get out into industry. I think I would leave the I/O as it is so you can gain an appreciation of the benefits of a PLC or these.

What is the V+ and C terminal and used for
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne Ай бұрын
Personally I don't use them because if you have an overcurrent condition, then you take the surge across the chassis of the PLC. But they are connected to the FP+ (V+) and FP-( C) terminals.

TIM; recently we replaced a 18 pulse 400 hp VFD with 6 pulse vfd. when we did one of six RTDs was affected by the proximity of the temperature controller to the VFD. the old VFD had a reactor ad filter the new one did not. The weird thing was that only one RTD was affected, the other 5 were just fine,all RTDS were in one 24 conductor shielded cable and and separated from any high voltage. bottom line is it took us forever to figure out and correct it. we talked to all local VFD vendors, only Yaskawa local suport guy suggested that might be noise related but still he was not sure because only one was affected.
@TimWilborne

@@shamanking5195 Yes the goal of my video will be to take some of the myths out of noise. Too many support people cry noise at the first sight of something they can't explain.

What gage wire you do normally use for your PLC writing, is it single solid copper wire or twisted pair?
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 3 жыл бұрын
I use stranded MTW wire for everything. The wire size depends on the particular application but if it is AC above 50V, then it is a minimum of 14AWG per UL 508A. For 24VDC, I use 18AWG because it is easier to get under the small PLC terminals with a ferrule.

Hey Tim , I don’t need physical inputs and outputs wired for the LEDs to light up , correct ? I though I have always tested code by just making sure the LEDs were lighting up when testing code. I am in a debate with a redditor who says I need physical IO connected to test the PLC IO.
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 2 жыл бұрын
You are both right 😉 Input LED are an indication of the physical input and do need wires. Outputs are an indication of whether there is a 0 or 1 in the output's bit box and don't need physical wires.

hey Tim, many thanks for this awesome series, I have asked you a question in other video, I got an issue with my PLC (compactlogix l30erm) a major error code 3 type 16 I/O module connection Error, I cleared the error everything got back to the normal for one day, on the next day I got the same error what should I do before I say I/O module is damaged? you advice please.
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 4 жыл бұрын
Have you narrowed it down to the specific I/O module that is causing the error? If it is an expansion module then the only thing to try before replacing it is disconnecting and reconnecting the I/O connector on that module and the module to it's right. Also make sure the right end cap is in place.
