Wiring Diagram Adding an Outside Light Changing a 2 Gang for a 3 Gang Switch Connections Explained

Student training aid for the connections required when changing a 2 gang light switch for a 3 gang switch so an outside light can be wired.
In the video I explains the connection required within the original 2 gang and the replacement 3 gang switch and the cable required for the new outside light
This method of wiring to the 3 gang switch means both the downstairs lighting circuit the landing light and outside light are all on the same fuse or MCB. This means that when you pull or operate just one fuse you will isolate all the conductor inside the 3 gang switch.

i did exactly the same thing, it involved just a tiny bit of head scratching in running the wire for my security light the bonus was that i used the same feed to power the smart doorbell breaker as it's never switched off unless one of the family decides to turn the light off, even though it's been 6 months and i've told them not too lol

Hi finding these really useful. Could we see a video where you can turn the upstairs light on and off from downstairs and turn the downstairs light off and on from upstairs? Thanks

hi.ive been watching your videos and i have just set up extra shed lights from main shed to lead to shed next to it.i have sheds own consumer unit and breakers.i have 2 way switches one in shed one in lean to.i have downlights one in shed comes on ok but have 2 extra led lights in lean to but cant get them to work.well did breifly light thought was loose bulbs in holder.i have a screw in bulb holder from another bulkhead light.now that is wired from a junction box from the led downlight that comes on in main shed.so if i connect the 2 extra led downlight to same junction box why dont they come on?.bulbs ok as swapped them into main shed bulb holder.?

Could you do a video showing how to take a power supply from inside a house outside, down the wall under paving to an external detached garage? I am a little concerned if the cable going under the paving needs to be in a plastic pipe conduit, needs to be armored, the pipe sealed, and if a specific 32amp trip inside the house needs to be provided. Could you spur off an internal house switch to provide two double mains power sockets in the garage? House is only a year old?

hello great vids. so i have a pressing question. i have one bathroom end of line light with switch in hall way. i want to add a mirror light and outside light on separate switches. so a 2 gang one way switch to operate outside light and mirror lights sperate from the bathroom switch. could you please advise

When you get a set of drawings what format are they in?

Should you not go for consistency in your diagram? For example, the 3 gang switch (if numbered from right to left as 3, 2, 1) the off position for 3 is the dashed line and for 2 is the solid line. Would it not be better if they were both dashed or solid ?

It's understandable to competent electrician that; 'Dotted' lines in switch-symbols are for Way1(L1/N.O) while 'Solid' lines in switch-symbols are for Way2(L2/N.C) (The above is in respect to Switch Dolly(s) flipped to their Default Positions i.e "Upwards")
