Matt's line delivery that comes after the exchange at 4:32 is so killer. You'd expect more aggressive emphasis like "...well, i Shouldn't be, Greg." but instead he underplays it so hilariously "... ... well i shouldn't be, greg." it's like so accepting but embarrassed but disapproving/disappointed but also it's a code switch to his more cordial persona. Nothing to do with the accent, which is perfect as always but i can feel his Britishness in the delivery. Chef's kiss. No moment played forgettably. Elevation.

@jeromebarbero75672 жыл бұрын
the one thing that separates Tom the most from almost every character in the show is that, while he might be a terrible prick, he still values a human connection. all the Roys in the show dont really seem to appreciate a human connection and came out demented cus of it (ie Roman with Gerri). Tom didnt come from that fucked background tho and still expects to find some warmth in the cold heartless void that is the Roy family. Shiv might love Tom, but isnt properly equipped to nurture that love. thats where Greg comes in. While Greg is his underling its still a relationship with a push and pull. Tom has status but Greg has the name. They both have something to gain from each other so theyre basically on the same level. But Greg also comes from the normal world which means he knows that there is an intrinsic value in a friendship with Tom, which is something Tom is starved for. So theyre the only two people in the show who are willing to give to one another in a relationship without getting in return. thats why i love them.
@makowyirys97762 жыл бұрын
I mostly agree, except the last sentence, I don't think they are selfless towards each other (Tom uses Greg, Greg blackmails Tom etc), but as you wrote, they both come from a normal world. and these normal people, "pariahs" came to the world of ruthless and cruel gods. And they both are desperatly trying to find their own place there.
@Yahikkox Жыл бұрын
Its not that the roys are demented because they dont value human connections, they are demented due to decade long abuse by their tyrannical sociopath of a father who pit them against each other all their lives. They are victims in this story as well

Greg's eyes and voice become so soft when he is speaking to Tom, there are moments where his is purelly 'watching Tom's mouth move', if you know what I mean. Also Tom becomes frantic and full of energy next to him, invading his space constantly. This is an amazing acting job... these bodies want each other.

One of the funniest little details in season 1 is that there Greg is, in a billionaire family, and he's so nervous and awkward that he can't ask to stay at someone's house for a couple weeks. He'd be able to stay at someone's place and literally not even see the other person because it's so big but he's paying to stay at a Youth Hostel 😂
