Wisconsin Badgers Questionable Future at Quarterback; Michigan Lands QB; Buckeyes Change Schedule

Ай бұрынLuke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers have big plans for the 2024 college football season and for the second straight year he will rely on a transfer portal quarterback. Last year it was Tanner Mordecai and this year it will be Tyler Van Dyke from the Miami Hurricanes.
RECRUIT A QUARTERBACK PLEASE!
What about recruiting a quarterback suited for Fickell and his air-raid offense? Recruiting has gone really well at Wisconsin except at quarterback. Each year he has landed a mid level QB but he really needs a high end QB who can throw the ball all over the yard.

Fickell has brought in 3 Texas QBs in 3 years: Braedyn Locke, Mabrey Mettauer, and Landyn Locke. These guys are lighting it up in high school, and Texas 6A ball isn't a bunch of scrubs.

Funny thing is I don't ever recall Fickell saying he wanted air raid. What he wanted was a coach that was at minimum, willing to do 50/50 and Longo is absolutely that guy. It was NEVER supposed to be air raid. The goal was to finally eliminate the 30 year run raid offense...and the goal is achieved.

Not to be this guy... But Wisconsins 24 and 25 QBs are underrated; especially Mabrey. Dude shredded 6A Texas football and was offensive mvp for his conference conference 3 years straight, where he beat out DJ Lagway each year 🤣

I agree, Maubrey as the best QB in Texas vs 6A is the cream of the crop as he's facing the best competition in the Nation every single game.

I think another year will help Locke develop. Mike Leach liked him, brought him to Mississippi state, and I will trust his opinion on Quarterbacks

The Big 10 is going to be a very competitive landscape this year, especially with the new additions from the West Coast. Ohio has opened up the US Treasury to pay players whatever they want but I don't think that is going to work out for them. They had an excellent QB in Kyle McCord and ran him out of there. Wisconsin is a sleeper team that could really come on. Iowa has Cade McNamara returning and I think he'll have a great season at QB. Penn State has Drew Allard and he's maturing into a fine QB. Michigan State has a great new coach and will turn it around. It will be a fun season for sure!

Wisconsin hasn't ever finished a season ranked #1 in the modern era of college football. I don't count 1952, however of the other three teams that haven't ever been ranked #1, Wisconsin is probably the most likely to finally break that 73 year streak of not making #1. Law of averages has to be in our favor, especially with a special coach such as Luke Fickell.

The team for the first year had to adjust offensively and defensively to new coaching staff and schemes. Tanner Mordecai had to deal with an offensive line that just did not adjust to the new scheme. We had a center that was injured and the center that was put in should have been a guard. The snaps were a mystery and Tanner was running for dear life. Also the WR room did not materialize except for one WR named Pauling. The last game Tanner player he had the Renfro back under center. He was 27/40 for .678 percentage and 378 yards 3 td and no int against LSU in the bowl. TVD (Van Dyke) would need to have an OL to be working a WR room making plays. If those two things happen then it's all on him to produce. The current room is good but we would need to have a big time QB to come in for this type of offense. Time will tell of one of these QB is a diamond in the rough.

Lets hope playing for Fickell is enough to draw talent to Wisconsin. Wonder if they have the NIL money to compete with OSU or Oregon every year.

Wisconsin has Alabama on their schedule this year, then they have an off week and then play USC. It’ll be interesting to see how they play in those two games.
