Bartmoss was... not a nice guy. Sure, he would be on the side of any player character since they're usually fighting some corporation or other, but make no mistake, he cared only about a few people, like Spider, and fuck everyone else. His rabid anti-corporatism and anti-authority personality is all that puts him on the side of any "good guys". I'd say he's every bit as much a psycho as Adam Smasher, but obsessed with destroying all coporations no matter the consequences rather than Adam's "killing for the fun of it" personality. If Rache thought you were in any way a corporate stooge, and it wouldn't take much, he'd have no hesitation about using you or brainburning you, and no regrets afterwards. Most people he'd just look down upon as mindless, worthless corporate drones. A lot of Johnny Silverhand's attitude, ego and narcissism in CP2077 reminds me more of Rache Bartmoss than it does the original characterization of Johnny Silverhand in the original source material.

​@@WiseFish I think it might've been done on purpose. Johnny has a massive ego, and getting hit by this shard of Soulkiller might've amplified that ego-thus leading to him mis remembering things, and casting himself into the limelight. We can see this sort of thing happen with 2-ish things: the Johnny VS Adam "rivalry", and Jackie's engram. IIRC (and I many be mis-remembering), Adam Smasher's main rival was Morgan, since Adam was a cyberware purist and Morgan was a nature/flesh purist. This lead to them being angry at each other and have a massive rivalry. In the game, though, Johnny made it seem as though HE was Adam's main rival, with little to no mention of Morgan. This engram of Johnny (with his massive ego) might've believed that he was Adam's rival, since he was the one who fought him and was ultimately killed by him. After his death, he tried to piece together the things that happened to him (the scenes where he was on the ground/rushed to a hospital/got hit by Soulkiller by Arasaka) with his imagination, since Soulkiller had already done its work. Of course he's gonna blame the megacorp for hitting him with Soulkiller, he probably didnt know that Spider had Soulkiller. And he hated Arasaka, so it wouldnt be hard for his imagination to make something up. The same scenario happened with Jackie, as well (I.E. body was hit with Soulkiller and an engram was made). He was hit with soulkiller, and was turned into a sad/somber shell of himself. His was more crude, however, since he was hit later in death than Johnny. This may be the reason why Johnny could actually remember things in the first place, and actually act like a human and grow as a person. However, it still shows that Soulkiller latched onto a persons personality and used that as the main one. Jackie might've SEEMED happy-go-lucky, but we know that he was actually a deeply troubled man, which is why he was so somber on the roof. This could all be wrong, though. The reason could simply be because CDPR wanted the story changed so it'd make a better game. They did it with Witcher before, and they couldve easily done it with Cyberpunk as well. However, if it was intentional that Johnny was changed/his memories were changed, that would be cool as hell.

@@AlbinoMichigander i personally think Saburo also had Johnny’s “memories” altered for some reason, maybe to hide Blackhand’s involvement & possible survival, and possibly to hide the fact that Shaitan most likely survived as well. I had thought maybe Johnny was blaming himself for Shaitans death, hence the discrepancies on that, but Johnny wouldn’t even have been still alive at the point Shaitan got ripped apart in the TTRPG/real story. Not sure why Saburo would do alter his memories, maybe just to see if they could. Maybe has to do with the fact that the nuke that went off probably wasn’t the Militec one, but one Arasaka had underneath their building. Idk just thoughts lol

Blackhand is mentioned in the game and we know for a fact that #1 Johnny is an extremely unreliable storyteller and #2 that engrams of dead individuals have warped perceptions. We only ever got Johnny’s side of the story, which is, of course, centred around him. Rogue never got the chance to tell us the whole story, even when she wanted to.

The Voodoo Boys always die in my playthroughs. Each and every one of them. They routinely betray and discard any outsider they use just as badly as any corp would. They just crossed the wrong person when they crossed V and got what was a long time coming to them.

@@steinarbergstl5799 Worse than corps in a way because if you're useful you can at least become part of a corp and even climb its ladder. With the Voodoo boys you're forever outsider to be used and thrown away no matter how well you do.

They are also racist and will kill outsiders on a whim

They call alt the best net runner ever in night city multiple times in the game. Not to mention in silver hands memories that we all have to play. Shes sitting in a net runners chair jacked in when silverhand assumed she was dead unhooking her and causing her death.

I got to interview Ed Bolme who wrote Bartmoss' Guide to the Net. Ed really fleshed out the character. His only instructions from Mike Pondsmith was "model him off of Hunter S Thomas if he was a super hacker." Which Ed did an awesome job. Ed loved writing in Raches persona for the TTRPG. He feels Bartmoss could well be alive and faked his death multiple times if Ed had any say in it. Dave Ackerman did the Spider Murphy side bits in Guide to the Net as well. Still need to interview him as well.

Could be, but he doesn't feel like Rache to me. Rache's defining character trait was his rabid and unbending anti-corporate (or really anti-anything-resembling-any-kind-of-authority) attitude. Mr. Blue Eyes doesn't really feel like a "let the world burn so long as the power structures all burn with it" kind of person the way Rache does.

I generally like the idea they are a group of rogue AI's that bartmoss's Rabid daemon mutated.

She’s certainly very noisy but that’s the price you pay for being a good enough hacker that it’s difficult for even the FIA to keep you under control. You’re not wrong, she’s very noisy but good luck finding another netrunner that can survive and even escape a fraction of the crazy shit she pulls off.

The tabletop roleplaying game has a supplement called Rache Bartmoss' Guide to the Net. its available over on R Talsorian Games site. It was written by Ed Bolme who wrote the book from Rache's point of view. David Ackerman added sidenotes in Spiders voice.

A lot of the lore comes from the different writers of the various supplements for the TTRPG. Smasher was originally created by Benjamin Wright for the Solo of Fortune 2 article Destroy All Flesh!! written by a borged out cyberpsycho. Ed Bolme wrote Rache Bartmoss' Guide to the Net with little guidance other than Mike telling him to write Rache akin to Hunter S Thompson. Will Moss based Saburo Arasaka off of Saburo Sakai and the book Samurai! for the Corporate Report. I've interviewed quite a few of the old writers and mostly Mike would give them some ideas and guidance, but they were left alone to be creative. Thing I learned from them is that the Pondsmiths are really great people. Most of these guys were in their twenties when they started writing for R Talsorian. Mike and Lisa treated them like family.

Doubt it. Songbird is way too young. Reed recruited her as a teenager after the blackwall was created, which was in the 2040s. Spyder was a keyboard jockey starting in the twenty teens.
