Those things fall apart at the connectors when you place weight on them. I have a few they are now used as a fence for my rabbit. Plus no wheels. Id stick with those other shelves you have.

Well there metal grid connecter you can buy. All you do is screw the screw on the connectors on the grids they stay in place. Screw plastic, don't trust plastic for anything that involves heavy weights

I wouldn’t put anything too heavy on them. Maybe hats or plush or make them makeup shelves. We had them in our guest room and I had fabric stacked on them and it was too heavy. Looks great though! You gained so much space turning the bookcase!!!!

Yes. I had them for my son's toys when he was little.

Yep I had those also. They collapse very easy. Don't put heavy stuff on them or clothes. GL Thanks for sharing.

I find these are the GoodWill bins all the time. Last time I went I found 3 zip lock bags filled with the connectors and about 10 full sets (all 5 grates per set) in a couple different colors. I use them to hold merch on my actual shelves. Since they are narrow enough I can hold two to a shelf.
@bestbudsflips2 жыл бұрын
You may want to reinforce them with zip ties, especially for fragile or heavy items. They are known to come apart. The connectors have the tendency to come loose sometimes.

That's what I thought.

Came here just to say that. There’s a reason why they were popular in the 80s and not so much now. I used mine in a closet above shelves and zip ties were key.

Or use metal connectors

I added E6000 inside the connectors for stability. They've been together for about 7 years now in my classroom with 22 kids using them. You can buy extra connectors from the company if needed. I noticed people saying don't put heavy things on them, but I have books on mine and games.

You need to get some zip ties and put them on every section of it because those plastic round holders will eventually work their way loose. I have a huge cube section of the same material and it took time to put all those zip ties on there but at least I know it's not going to collapse on me someday.

I've used these for years. You have to really seat those connectors well so they are sturdy. The only time they come apart on me, is if I try to move them. I used to store scrapbook paper in them. I'd take extra panels and zip tie them inside a cube to divide the cubes into extra shelves. Worked well for the paper although dust was an issue. For inventory I use boxes and bins on the rolling metal shelves like you have.

Good idea turning that bookshelf the other way!! The other shelves can hold more weight and are more sturdy, so I think they each have their place. I wouldn't want to put any lots of books or anything heavy like that on those wire cubes.

I have a whole wall of those cubes 5 high by 10 long. Plus other configurations. They are great. Got them years ago at Target, on sale they were $20 for a box of 9. A little advice is to use a rubber mallet on the connectors to lightly hammer them so as to push them in together nice and tight. I have never had them come apart after doing that, unless I try to move them.
@michaelpittman88962 жыл бұрын
I used to have some of these. I actually made a temporary dog crate out of them when I was potty training one of my dogs in 2005. I wish I still had them.

These must be pretty popular at garage sales around here. I got a smaller unit last year at a sale and just hooked them up a few months ago. They are awesome for storing boxed action figures and other small boxed items.

I use those cubes as well. I wire tied them together because the small button tabs pop off occasionally.

The plastic joints will crack eventually, I recommend some heavy duty zip ties to alleviate the stress and some plumber glue to keep the "bushing" in place.
@Mirke2552 жыл бұрын
College dorm room cubes.. they are cheap and will come apart easily unless you zip tie every single sheet together
@KristiWilson2 жыл бұрын
I would use zip ties on those corners as well. These units are notorious for coming apart at the connectors.
@brianklaus24682 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately they do not hold a lot of weight so take care to only put lighter inventory on those shelves
@shedflips2 жыл бұрын
They seem fairly sturdy, definitely not going to stack books on them or anything though. Should be a good fit for 90% of the things we sell

You should lock it together with zip ties. So it won't come undone

they are ok. but you will learn they are not that great. dont load to heavy. add some zip ties to the joints.
@luissandoval73882 жыл бұрын
I use these.. if you're gonna put weight on them zip tie the intersections. Also make sure they're fully connected in, and not just half way. Don't get rid of the backs thinking you can make more cubes out of them, the backs help support. And last if you're gonna buy alot, they sell by 12, 16, 20 .. count how much you're paying per panel instead of per cube. Sometimes the 12 cube is cheaper per panel
@kristibunte78202 жыл бұрын
Becareful putting to much weight on them. Sometimes they come apart under weight.
@chadeckert46092 жыл бұрын
Personally I wouldn't use zip ties either, use tie wire like you are tieing steel....zip ties slide and slip...if you tie wire at every other + it'll hold no problrm.. but I'm always over building things lol

Not good for heavy items. I used for my son's toys when he was little. They sometimes pop apart. I have the mixed version now with faux leather. They can't handle much . 💁🏾♀️😨🙆🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
