It's awesome because he does it throughout the Tourney and then there's a side-quest somewhere in beauclair where he follows Geralt around narrating his actions during a contract. Also I need him narrating my life too.

Geralt did that not to save his own but rather they all got stuck between both ends of the battle. To get out of the fight, Geralt had to pick a side during the Battle of the Bridge aka Battle of Yaruga and instead of picking Nilfgaard, Geralt picked the obviously Northern sided Rivia and became their defacto general on the field while the whole hansa became officers too, slaughtering the Nilfgaardians back to where they were from across the battlefield and even when the battle was won, Geralt did not know that till someone told him that the Nilfgaardians had fallen back and the queen has invited the whole hansa to the palace. That's where Meve knighted Geralt. When Geralt left, Meve wasn't at all pissed as she knew about Geralt's motives all along and why he landed himself with his posse in Rivia. It's just that the fucking useless prince thought that a mere commoner can fight at a same exclusive battle arena as him was a disgrace and threw a hissy fit like any prince would do.

It would have to be common enough for you to consider it. It's the same reason why no one could stop the black knight in arthurian legend you dont exspect and neih unkillable person to enter a bloody tourney. So you dont put it in the books. But keep in mind. It is at least in my view that the people of the middle ages were no more superstitious than we were. They might tell tales demigods, monsters, and witchers. However that dosnt mean that they would ever put that into law unless they saw it with their own two eyes.

HelvyAyaaz !! yeah it's just a title he gave himself because his old name suggestion failed

then found it really funny when he was knighted and became "of rivia" for real (as in knight of rivia) not that he has done much if anything to support that title in any real way

But he did something to support his made up name, he learned how to mimic Rivian accent. According to the books, at least.

When he was just a new Witcher roaming the streets, Vesemir told him that he needed a more robust name that makes him look serious and he chose "Rivia" as a mere joke but when he got knighted, that was when he really had his fun as his fantasy world came to fruition and since then he called himself "Geralt of Rivia" for real every time he meets someone because, hey... When you're knighted, if you have a chance to force everyone to call you "Sir", you bloody jolly well will.
