I'd like to think this is a Dragon Ball Z episode. All the side characters fighting and dieing waiting for Geralt to show up. And just kill everything in 30 secs.

Look at 1:15 in this video. The female witcher went crazy and said, "Die!" when Letho was killed by a monster. Those NPCs know when a teammate gets killed. That's not really something new in video games. The NPCs in Left 4 Dead 2 are that way too.
