Finally getting round to uploading the video's of my holiday photography from Northumberland in September 2008.
This is Lindisfarne, as the video explains, its a tidal island, meaning you can only access it by a causeway at low tide. It is a stunning place, with layer upon layer of history, far too much to talk about in the video.
The Northumberland coast is literally strewn with Castles, and from one you can usually see another, I have other video's on here of Bamburgh Castle, and there are some of Dunstanburgh (on the Craster video).
No amount of photography can really capture what a beautiful place this is.
We parked in a designated car park just outside the actual village (only disabled parking is permitted near the castle) and caught a small shuttle bus to the village.
This is known to be the place where Christianity first arrived here, and has a history of wars and battles from the Vikings, as well as the English and the Scots fighting due to Northumberland being so close to the Scottish border, and I believe at one time owned by Scotland.
Photography is rarely allowed inside English Castles, which is a shame, because I would have liked to have shared the inside with you also.
Enjoy the visit....

Go ahead, Witchy Sky... turn the knife! What a stunner this is! The pic at 4:29 is publishable! One thing I love that you do is the historical commentary. I find it invaluable. 10 stars!

It is good to see one of your videos again! Especially this one, as we have just returned from an all too brief visit to Lindisfarne! We didn't have time to get to the castle so we especially appreciate seeing what it is like there. It a lovely place!

Thanks so much for posting this video. It has brought back many fond memories for me. This is a really special place. I was lucky to visit here a year and a half ago. It was the final destination of a walk I did from Melrose, Scotand; the St Cuthbert's Way. I spent two days on the island and the stay was incredible. Thanks

Excellent job on this video, Lisa. Bravo! I love the history narrative you've included. I remember when you went here, I think it's so fabulously cool about the sea twice a day. Beautiful photos, gorgeous video!

I had the pleasure of visiting holy island a few weeks back, a really nice place I stood at the farmers gate and looked over at the castle before I went over to explore, I can only describe the view as a haunting beauty, I will be back on holy island many times again I hope.

Thank you for a vibrant look into your country's awesome history. I can imagine the surprise of the castle builders when the tide would make the fortress almost impossible to attack. I wonder of the great men and I guess maybe women who lived and fought under those conditions. The strength and character of those warriors must be fearsome to behold. You there walking among the rooms they planned and plotted and perhaps died in. The cemetery is lonely and beautiful in its character. Music coolest

I stayed at Wooler YH in September. I cycled over to the Island and enjoyed my visit very much. Not sure about peace and tranquility though. There is one heck of a lot of people swarming the island every day. Maybe need to get an early morning window I suppose to get the place to yourself. Great vid and music by the way.

I went to Lindisfarne College in New Zealand, its was a private boarding school based on this island, my house was Oswald so I know alot about this island. Once day I hope to visit this island. The school has 4 houses: Aidan, Cuthbert, Daurham and Oswald.

Nevertheless, it's still an extremely important Celtic Christian site, whoever brought the faith to Britain first. :-)

The video is lovely but Allan is right. It wasnt the place where Christianity first arrived. Christianit had been spreading long before the time of Constantine(272-337AD). Remember that the Romans did not oblige the Gaels to preach their religion, but the Britons realised how backward they were as compared to the continental people. Saint Aidan and Cuthbert were 2 monks who helped the celtic Christianity to develop. By
