Thanks for 10 years of learning how to sew and sharing that with you all! Some of you might not know, but I'm a combination of raised by a sewing mom and self-taught since moving out on my own. Successfully making something that I love without a guidebook gives me immense satisfaction, and I hope this channel can be an encouragement to you on trying new skills and witnessing how you grow! Sending you all my love this holiday season as we wrap up 2019

Every time I make something, I think about how grateful I am to my mother and her mother (my Nanna) for teaching me how to sew. I don't even want to think about how much money I've saved over the years by making my own clothes, or altering clothes I already own to make it fit better or make something entirely new with it.

@@safaalani6209 same. I went to fashion school and hated sewing so much because it made things so hard for me. For some reason they want us to learn everything the hard way, even the machines at my school were manual paddle ones and it all killed my creativity. Sewing has taught me so much about thrifting. I can recognize good construction and natural materials now more readily since I started sewing so regularly. Binding every seam with bias tape is very couture. I'm so impressed that you unpicked all that quilting to make the bias tape! Feels like thrifting and sewing is the way outta the fast fashion mess we all find the world in right now. You're the best Wendy!
@mochi_and_me
@mochi_and_me 4 жыл бұрын
Way back when.... at least 50 years ago, in 'needlework' class at school, I was taught that when you make your own bias binding, you cut the ends at a 45° angle. This way when you sew them together they aren't thick in one spot, if you know what I mean. I took needlework for 3 years which I seldom use, but is helpful when I need to sew a button, or hem things!!!

SO FLUFFY! just a few quick tips, when you join bias tape do it on a diagonal so the bulk of the seam is staggered and not just one big bump to sew over (there are lots of tutorials on joining bias). Also: for diagonal/curved necklines if you stay stitch (straight stitch a line of normal size stitches close to the neckline edge right after you cut it out} you won't get the wobble/stretching that makes it not lie flat. I might need to make one of these coats now!

That coat is stunning!! I am going to try my hand at making one. I am certain it won't come out as good as yours, that is for sure. Congratulations on this achievement! It's wonderful and you should be very proud of it!! Thank you for sharing your joy with us.

What a breath of fresh air you are. No annoying, long-winded, obligatory KZfaqr intro, with clapping and wringing of hands and the completely over used cliché of, "with that being said, let's jump right into it". Excellent sewing too btw 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
