The plastic rear axle wasn't able to handle the power I was throwing at the drive train so was able to find a metal rear axle replacement You can get this metal diff here amzn.to/2DpqCCx

An issue nobody ever talks about, is make sure your wheel nuts are tight! If they are not snugged up that thing wanders all over the road regardless of your trim the right side of the vehicle will always work the nut loose because of the way the torque works on it. I'm constantly having to tighten those wheel nuts to keep it going straight. Especially at high-speed's.

it will help to move your rear springs to the last mount holes and it will straighten the drive line and take the hard angle off it

seems the new version now has all metal gear by default. ( I purchased metal gears/axe, wanted to replace the original, after I opened the orig diff, I saw all metal gears inside! every last one is metal)

Cool video. I'm about to upgrade my differential to. I'm also going to lock up the rear differential by using JB Weld To lock the rear end. I have a video up for making a nice jump bumper to replace the tiny skid plate in front.

This rear axle is the stock axle on the JJRC Q39, if you're looking to buy one of these rc cars, go for that because all the parts are upgraded.

You can buy the gears by themselves without the whole diff assembly. Just did myself, waiting for em to get to me from China cuz my girls kid stripped the plastic gears pretty quick. Think it was like $25 for all metal gears for the front and rear diff including all the spider gears and the pinion gears and I also ordered the two main gears that transfer the power from the mother to the drive train. Got em off gearbest but I’m sure all the Chinese websites got em banggood, aliexpress, dhgate, etc...
@basketballcoachmike5 жыл бұрын
i tried the mettle upgrade, but my gears are locked up. like the gears are to tight. did yours work?
@AszBall5 жыл бұрын
basketballcoachmike - the side gears were tough coming off the axle and stripped the screw heads off the pinion gear screws but a little torch lighter to the axle made it easier to back out the screws on the side gears (melts the threadlocker) and for the pinion gear screw I had to destroy the pinion gear by grinding it off with a dremel so I could twist the screw out with pliers after stripping the heads on em unfortunately can’t heat up the pinion gear shaft without risking melting the diff housing so had to destroy the old pinion gear. Had to buy new screws to replace them. Kinda a tough job, without stripping screws and if you mess up and break off a screw head you’re gonna have to buy the whole diff replacement assembly anyways I guess. Wish I could better explain the best way to do it but kinda difficult without showing you.

@@AszBall i had to buy new screws because i too had to cut some plastic to get the old screws out. i put the new metal gears in with diff. lube and they were very hard to turn even by hand. one video they told me to loosen the screws on the axle housing and that helped. still to tight for the car to run on its own power. blows. probably means i have to buy the all in one housing unless you have any other ideas on how to make the metal gears work.
@AszBall5 жыл бұрын
basketballcoachmike - mine was the same just keep loosening the screws to the housing till the gears stop fighting back. It feels weird and wrong having the screws backed out multiple turns but mine has run great that way. I feel like I backed em out quite a bit if I remember correctly been a while so don’t remember how much i backed out the screws exactly. Broke a ton of other stuff because I went with a 3900kv brushless on 3s lipo but the diffs have held up without issue. Gone through multiple drive shafts and even chewed up a steel upgraded motor pinion gear but the diffs have held up great using the metal gears with the screws backed out on the housings. I set the screws so that I can easily twist the rear drive shaft with my fingers and have all four wheels turn. Was worried having that much resistance/friction when the housings were tight would burn up the motor or esc so felt loosening the screws till it was smoothish was the best idea.

Are you thinking about upgrading the front dog bones? I was driving my 12428 and seriously bent the front dog bones and found some stronger ones but I do not know how to replace them.

Hahahaha I just bought the same one last week,it was lots of fun. My rear differential gave out,or that's what I thought it was.i opened it up and it had metal gears in it. Turns out my shaft was broken. I also bought a replacement diff and it's the same as yours. Is your new one locked? Seems like my old one wasn't. What I mean is if the rear right wheel turned when the left one was stuck. Now with the new one they both turn the same. Can you PLEASE help? Thank you and I love your videos. I also send my kid running when it flips🤣😂

did you upgrade all gears to metal? And did you upgrade the servo? seams tha the stock one it is not in standart dimensions. Thanks and great video!
@badmonkeyfpv6 жыл бұрын
I didn't update all the gears to metal just because I couldn't find metal spur and front ring and pinion gear. I did swap the server, just because the stock one had a strange 5 wire plug that wouldn't work with a normal receiver.
@JoaoOliveira-qz3hc6 жыл бұрын
but you have a brushless motor on it, right? my question is iifwith the stock gears and an upgrade brushless motor, the power will probably cause the gears to broke

Have you spun the front diff yet on this car with that added power? They don't have a metal front diff that I'm aware for this car. My stock care on 2s lipo does 27mph. I'm curious what your top speed is? Nice video...

they do indeed have a front metal diff.... its only available fron there website though. www.wl-toys.com/Wltoys-12428-Car-Spare-Parts-0092-03-Option-2-Upgrade-Modified-kit-for-the-Metal-Front-Differentials-28822.html there are 4 variations of this product down below it that you change whats metal and whats plastic.

backlash! lol don't think there are no backlash adjustments on these rc rear ends least not on this. this rearend must be off the feiyue.. I'm lookn to order one for my 12428 but the only problem I see is the gear ratio won't be the same as the front now and the front feiyue gearbox from what I hear won't fit rite. also the 12428 front diff uses dogbone setup where the feiyue uses cvd style. so I'm leaning to go rear wheel drive only with this. I've gotten complete standing backflips from mine and perfect land of all 4's. running 4000kv brushless toro v1 not the v2 crap with the debonding issue. JX 20 kg servo with aluminum arm flysky gt3b radio along with complete set of gmade xd adjustable piggyback oil shocks 2 sets of 1.9 beadlocks 1 set of aluminum beadlocks with set of superswamper tires. the aluminum wheels the weight is what finished off the job which I've them replaced the metal beadlock ring with plastic beadlock ring to cut the weight of the wheel down more than half with this particular set. the rims are aluminum alloy but I swear the beadlock rings are steel considering the rings weigh more than the front and back pieces of rims combined. still waiting on rear metal driveshaft and aluminum control arms and hubs. anyone hear any good on those fast eddy bearing sets, I'd like to get a set giving I find the proper sizes. safe to say that even with the motor timing at only 5° punch strength at its lowest setting I still haven't been able to give this thing full throttle. I did get some speed runs strapping my galaxy s5 to it before the tape gave out and I was able to pull wheelies at 50 mph with ease getting up to 58 mph before running out of road on my little side street. all with only giving half throttle the entire time off 3s lipo pack. tape gave out as I started getting used to the speed so I never did see the final pass which was much faster, I did get a new galaxy s7 out of the deal lol. live and learn. the new aluminum wheels are a major night and day difference with the handling outcome of the vehicle I'm swapping out the metal beadlock rings with the plastics today and just sitting back waiting on parts. sorry for the rambling but it is impossible to share my 5 week long journey with the 12428 in a single sentence...
