Kids actually have way more understanding of it than adults! My brother remembers when he was 5 years old seeing a poster about transgender issues and he immediately thought, "that's me!" My parents have never been accepting of him being trans but luckily I was. And also I hate when people always talking about children transitioning, because they DON'T! Yes, they might transition socially but they have to be old enough to understand the consequences, and go through years of counselling and evaluating before they're allowed to medically transition.

How is acknowledging that there are gay or trans folk confusing for kids? Seems pretty simple to me. The only thing being taught is that bullying people for their differences is wrong. Perhaps if you're worried about it, read the materials? I read the materials that the pearl clutchers here in Australia were protesting about, & it was literally just acknowledging differences and discouraging bullying.
