I’m only 50! I stumbled upon Kid Ory videos yesterday. They say that one finds the best things on accident. Kid Ory proves that point! Now I’m hooked! We can share the Kid Ory videos. We can carry on his music 🎶 that way!

Why don't we all know what an incredible master Kid Ory truly was?

We know now! I stumbled upon him just yesterday. I’m listening to my third Kid Ory video today. I will look for Kid Ory videos at a nearby Jazz/Blues store. I will practice my washboard to them.

My dad got me into this as a bairn, have loved Kid and the whole of trad jazz ever since, Went to the states to work in a fairground in 1975. then got a month pass for the Greyhound. First stop was New Orleans, and I have never looked back. Go to loads of jazz festivals in the UK and Europe. Lovely to hear the double bass bowed!"

Jimmie Noone is considered one of the best clarinetists of the Twenties. Noone played with Kid Ory's band in California in the Forties when he suddenly died of a heart attack. 1895-1944

Jimmie Noone’s tone on clarinet reflected the purer classical tone of the Creole originators from New Orleans, Lorenzo Tío and George Baquet & Albert Nicholas & Buster Bailey
@howiesmith1504 Жыл бұрын
@@edwarddesenne6153 Buster Bailey was from Memphis. But he probably heard the New Orleans reedmen on the riverboats, so he fitted right in when he gigged and recorded with N.O. guys in Chicago and New York. Having monster chops helped too. Benny Goodman said Buster had the best technique of any jazz clarinetist. BTW, Buster was one of the very few early black clarinetists who played Boehm system. Darnell Howard and Captain John Handy were two others. Albert Nicholas started on Albert system, but switched to Boehm around 1928 while in the Middle East (Alexandria, IIRC) on a world tour.

Don’t ignore Willie Humphrey ( wilder more authentic tone than Burbank , New Orleans style clarinettist born 1900 ) & his bro Percy on trumpet with the “Preservation Hall Jazz Band” still playing on my 3 LP set in 1977 with their leader “Sweet Emma Brown” on piano / vocals & Alcide ( Slow drag” ) Pavageau on bass & Emanuel Sayles on banjo & Jim Robinson ( trombone) who also accompanied Kid Ory , George Lewis & ( Bunk Johnson , trumpet in 1964 )
