Some good tips here! My family lived in Tanzania 25 years so I got to go on safari many times. - The roads/ground in Tanzania is often a super-fine 'red dust' powder, and that can get everywhere, especially on a long journey. Khaki 'safari wear' is practical, because it doesn't show the dust... avoid white clothes and stuff like that. - Careful changing lenses on your camera because of that dust. Also take a good camera bag which will keep it away from the dust while you're travelling. - Get the right anti malaria meds to take out. - Take a good torch. On the equator it gets light at 6am and dark at 6pm. You'll be hundreds of miles from big towns and street lights... you'll never have seen darkness like this! - Also look into the sky. With far less light pollution, you'll never have seen stars like this either!

It would be absolutely wonderful to actually see stars again like I was able to in my childhood. I was born in the late 50's .... everything was so different then. Now I look up to nothingness. I no longer see any stars and somehow the positioning of a full moon looks totally fake to me. It used to be high in the sky and now it appears either tree level, or below...I never saw anything like it. Sometimes, I do believe we're under a dome, living out the "Truman Story" backdrop LoL

I can totally relate to this! My first Safari was in the Kruger National Park in South Africa, and as I'm driving by I saw a herd of elephants just sitting on the side of the road eating leaves off a tree! Moment you never forget!

One thing is I love Wolter. When he was where the Mountain Gorillas live. I enquired about trekking up the mountain to see the Gorillas. Its about 500 to 1000 dollars. There goes my life dream. I watch other people on youtube trekking. Those babies are adorable.

Wolter I would love to go to Kenya to visit friends who live N. of thr Masai Mara national game park. I would have to fly out of JFK LGA or EWK. I dont want multiple stops just one way to Nairobi. Its expensive. I will be alone and must fly at least business class. I must be able to lie down. Im 67 and cant sit up for 18 hours. Any suggestions?

That's tough. So what we've done is break it up. Go to Europe 1st and spend a couple weeks. Then fly from Europe down. Then when come vack spend some time in Europe then back to the US. Extends your stay a lot longer but that's what we did with my parents who were in their mid to late 70s at the time. They said that helped them
