4:40 - Shoutout to ‪@chainsawpilot‬, you're awesome man!
Mother Nature has done it again... We went from +5°C to -24°C within a few days, receiving high winds & upwards of 12 inches of snow... Winter 2.0, give or take...
But with cold temps & fresh snow means that the Wolves were forced to hunker down, becoming hungrier more than ever. Once the snow cleared it was easily noted the entire pack converged on the bait & set off a bomb LOL
Only a few more weeks of the season left... then onto Bear baiting & as well, watching our Wolf packs pups get out of the den to feed come late May, early June!
And thank you to ArmyTek for sending me such a beauty headlamp - You guys can get 15% off by utilizing my code below at the checkout:

The only source of knowledge is experience. Franklin has the knowledge due to his experience. He's such a great resource to learn from. Looks like they have a bit more snow. Stay safe brother!! Joel, good luck in the blind the next couple of weeks.

I pay it all back in sweat when we gather firewood, or hauling bait, doing little odd jobs. The stuff we get into off camera is hilarious. Just always something to learn from Franklin, he’s a man of so many skills & knowledge.

If it was a normal year I’d be able to snare no problem, but with the thaw we’ve had recently it’s difficult to find their main trails. I should do some video of varying hare snaring next year!

Hahahahah he’s such a beauty - recovering alcoholic too… I’m glad he found sobriety in trapping & bush stuff… I’d say a lot more of us need more time in the bush!

Fun fact 80 to 90% of wolves diet is small game mice, rats, fish, birds and their eggs, rabbits, beaver etc when they take down a big animal like a deer or a moose calf it is only enough food for a day or two then back to small game, they would rather not take a big healthy animal for fear of being hurt, they don't have health insurance, wolves are not aggressive like the movies say they are, when you hear of people getting hurt or killed by them most stories are bull or some dummy was trying to take one of their pups i've ran across hundreds of wolves over the years and never once felt threatened nor has any of the hundreds of bush people i;ve known

Interesting - Which study are you reading from? Across Minnesota, Colorado & Idaho you can locate packs of Wolves taking down an Elk, Deer or Moose then leaving it, never to return to actually feed on it... Opportunistic kill maybe, but you'd think they would at least eat the thing down to its bones before taking off again? Nope. You won't find that in any Wolf study though - Unfortunately Wolf studies, like all studies, can be bought & paid for by people or organizations to skew the study in order to showcase Wolves are this, or that, or the other... The only way to know is, like you said, experience running into them & watching them! Now in regards to attacks... All 3 attacks up here in Northern Ontario that I have personally spoken to the people about have all been due to a human walking their dog & the dog is a small dog (lap dog... a snack for a Wolf lol)... so, Wolves can be dangerous but yeah, it is definitely not like running into a big Momma Black Bear with two baby cubs... WATCH OUT! LOL

@@PatterningNature every time i've seen studies on any animals they are pretty general done by people in helicopters or on snow machines and end up looking like a script for a movie, one guy i knew assessed forest fire damage and did moose counts from a bombardier snow coach, every year, funny they always came home with enough moose meat for the winter, when i asked about how the moose died he would say wolf kills, then look at his buddy and laugh ( his buddy's nick name was wolf ) most of the wolves i've run into are alone or in small groups of two or three, I like seeing the wildlife so i always encourage them to come around by feeding their game, sometimes i put meat out for the meat eaters, but never rotten meat if they eat to much of that they get sick, and i always keep extra chickens for the wildlife to take, but my chickens are getting smarter havn't lost any for awhile a hawk and a coyote are here a few times a week trying but leave with a mouse or a squirrel, any way i could go on forever i'm still cheering for the wolf LOL they are so cute and cuddley, when you move out to your new property put out 50lbs of black oil sunflower seeds a month, feed the small game the wolves lynx fox will come to hunt in your yard, put a rifle stock on your camera and fire away then you don't have to feel bad for killing such a beautiful animal

"Wolf kills" oh my gosh LOL And already on it with the seeds... got an 18KG bag yesterday, the Blue Jays, Chickadees & other birds are loving it, especially now that winter has returned yet again... Rifle stock camera.... Our tagline can read, "Get the hunt without the kill"!@@erniescabin4256

@@PatterningNature i think in the red lake area you can build four guest cabins , a way around calling yourself a lodge a B@B type thing i think there are a lot more tree huggers out there that would love to come camera hunting catch a few fish spend a week, the same wolf can be shot hundreds of times year round no tag sit around a campfire with a tame fox learning how to build a tee-pee camera blind and birch stick picture frames lol your new camp opens up all kinds of ideas or stay in wall tents since the weather will be warm, are you takeing bookings yet?
