Well, with the #Wolves back at Joel's Diner, its time to toss the last couple boxes of bait out for them to enjoy while I prep for my last overnighter.
I'm unsure whats going on with my voice currently but I've lost it entirely with no other attributes of a cold, or sickness - Weird... Anyways, with warm days but still cold nights, I hope to get 1 more overnighter done before the season closes!
And thank you to ArmyTek for sending me such a beauty headlamp - You guys can get 15% off by utilizing my code below at the checkout:

Maybe raise that blind next season up in the air help to minimize scent lingering and possibly movement if on the bait or trail. Can you get biodegradable boxes for next year also save cleanup.

I might utilize large tupperware bins for my bait next year... That way I can just wash out the inside come Spring (Man that will smell eh...LOL) As per raising the blind up... You might be onto something there, but I do know as the sun rises & warms things up in the winter, thermals change & will carry your scent regardless if you're high up, or down low. Eventually I want to build a tree-house hunting blind that I can sleep in, etc...

Very cool. Nice picrure capture of that lynx. Cool shots of the wolves as well. I agree, feeling that passion in the outdoors is like nothing else. I find on camping trips, by day 3 you start feeling part of the backwoods like you're just one with nature. The feeling is hard to describe.

Loved the lynx pics! Here's a question for you. Why don't you guys dump the bait out of the boxes and save yourselves a bunch of clean up? Asking for a friend 😂😂

Hahahah the boxes make it harder for the Ravens to carry my bait away! Also, once the Wolves hit the bait, they have to really dig & pull open the boxes to get to the bait inside, forcing them to stay on the bait longer. In saying that... Sometimes I dont cover the boxes with logs but just leave the meat in the boxes on top of the logged cubby so the Ravens go NUTS, which in turn... brings the Wolves into the bait faster. Clean up ain't half bad... Drag it with the sleigh back to my truck, then burn it in my firepit at home LOL

If you're in and out of there your scent should be all around and shouldn't spook them you would think.

I agree - Franklin is under the same consensus as well. Animals will eventually get use to your scent believe it or not. I find the more I check my trail cams, the more comfortable the Coyotes & Wolves are at hitting the bait & staying on the bait longer.

Scent is an interesting topic. I have wolves follow my path in the snow. I’ve had some refuse a snare and veer off, but I think they actually see the snare. I’ve had some walk through or under a snare. I’m not overly careful about my scent. However I’ve caught more wolves that are either sick, old, skinny, or either mange so I think they are often more desperate to come into a bait pile. This is what makes wolf trapping and hunting such a rewarding challenge. Keep at it!!!

@@deadpinecollective Amen to that brother - My plan for this year, once I have my trappers licence, is to continue to bait that same site but set 25-50 yards all around the bait so they don't actually have to go near the bait itself, but as they slink through the bush "towards" the smell on the outskirts of the bait, I will get'em that way.
