The woman who survived a 2016 car crash that killed her husband and unborn child is recounting the day that changed her life. In August 2016, newlyweds Kristian and Fabian Guerrero were driving along a road in San Marcos, Texas, when Shana Elliott hit them head on. Kristian, who was driving, was five months pregnant at the time. She was taken to the hospital and survived a brain bleed, but her husband was killed. An ultrasound nurse told her more terrible news: that her baby died too. #InsideEdition

This is what I’m saying the USA needs to push away from giving long sentences to any crime because isolated them from society only creates an even bigger monster than what walked into jail than what comes out we need to put these people to work and fix our roads, buildings and work to pay for their own rehab to learn from their mistakes

My daughter was in a vehicle accident caused by a drunk driver which changed her life forever. She is permanently disabled and had to give up her dream of being a Dr. She also deals with horrible emotional and physical pain. Also, financially, being disabled is an absolute nightmare it's so unfair. And, the person that caused the accident is living the good life.

It's the words of a human, who cares about revenge more than anything else. Her anger is understandable, but not her ignorance that a person, who threw out his brain before, now regrets doing it, because the cost of his stupidity is someone's death and he feels the burden of killing two people, in this case.
@abneryates4304

i actually don't understand that saying. that woman was probably legit sorry and feels horrible about it. same with other people who make awful mistakes. "sorry you got caught" is just what people say when they don't want to accept an apology. and that's well within your right to not accept an apology. but "you're only sorry you got caught" doesn't apply to everyone you're just mad at.

To those stating this girl would already have a lifetime of guilt regardless if she got caught, how many times do you think she got behind the wheel before this incident? If this accident hadn't happened, how many more times do you think she would have continued to get behind the wheel after drinking? She knew full well that she was endangering herself and everyone else on the road before getting in that car and would have continued to do so if she hadn't been caught actually causing an accident. So yes, she is only upset that she got caught.

My uncle used to be a "functioning alcoholic" as he put it, and he would drive drunk often. When I was learning how to drive, I said to my uncle "what if you're driving drunk and one day you hit a car with children inside or you kill someone, what if you hit me?" He got sober after that, he didn't have children of his own and he always treated me like his, I wasn't expecting him to quit drinking (I just didn't want him to drive drunk anymore) but something must have clicked for him when I said that.

Good on you. So many of my family members have died either of liver disease or driving drunk. Alcohol is poison, yet for some reason, it's considered a hobby to drink it. People structure their entire social lives around alcohol. Some people can't relax or have fun unless they're drinking, and it's sad. I think that if a person has to get drunk in order to have fun, they must be extremely boring in general.

Likewise. Even though my dad has repeatedly told me that I'm level-headed enough that I'd be fine even if I ever did get drunk (meaning he's confident that I'd be smart enough to not get behind the wheel even while intoxicated), I refuse to even take that risk, no matter how minute of a risk it might be. To the point that I refuse to have even the tiniest sip of alcohol. I refuse to ever allow myself to even have the chance of getting drunk.

I'm sure I'd say it myself if that was my family who was killed. But to an outsider looking in,unless the driver was a complete psycho ( in which case she wouldn't be showing remorse),it's incorrect for that statement to be made. So sad. And what a selfish act that woman committed over a night of drinking. No one has the right to get behind the wheel of a car drunk and jeopardizing someones life and in this case taking 2 lives. 14 yrs isn't long enough for the lifetime of suffering she caused over nothing.

It's because of the laws in Texas the drunk driver could have got two years to 20 years in prison. You also have to take into consideration if you kill *one person* in a DUI you can get one to 15 years in prison. Since the baby was not technically born yet it gets complicated. In my personal opinion she should have gotten way longer.

I mean I just feel bad for everyone involved.. that girl made a decision that ended up killing two people and she’s going to have to live with the guilt of that - even without the prison sentence, I wouldn’t envy her position one bit. Have you ever done something that made you feel sick with guilt any time you thought about it? That’s going to be her reality every day for the rest of her life. I completely understand the victim’s anger and hatred, it’s justified.. but that girl didn’t get in that car intending to hurt anyone and I guarantee she’s beating herself up about it more than anyone. This kind of thing can happen to anybody who gets behind a wheel, whether they’re high/drunk/tired/distracted - I just hope this serves as a lesson to anybody to be fully focused when driving.

This is why you don't drink and drive. It is not a accident, but a collision. Two lives destroyed. If you do decide to go out and have a good time, just remember that regardless of how much an Uber or prearranged ride costs, it will still be cheaper than all this emotional, mental, and financial trauma.

Two lives TAKEN, many more destroyed. I feel awful for this woman and her and her husband's family. I also feel bad for this monster's family, I can't imagine the guilt and disgust they probably feel, even though they had nothing to do with this. Just awful all around. I don't like drunk drivers.
