Probably. I've never been on a tether but, it's my guess that a number of the defendants who are tethered, will try various ways to make the tether malfunction in order to get high or drunk and to stay out of trouble. In other words, I can easily see how they could use it as an excuse to not follow the conditions of their release or bond. I'm sure, as long as the judge has been at this, he's probably heard every lie and excuse in the book.

you're not poor, are you. no judgment from me. i can only spare that much sometimes. i've been putting off getting a dental crown for over a year because i can't afford it and there's no payment plan. i have no savings. and quite frankly, if i was arrested, i would be too ashamed to ask to borrow $200. especially if i was in active addiction.

Well, now she needs $2,500, because the judge increased her bond to $25,000.

What many don't realize is that if you pay the FULL BAIL amount, you get all your money back when the case is over.... guilty or not guilty. Your $200 is lost forever if you go that path.

@@perrymeril true, but ... Most Americans can't afford even $400 in unexpected expenses in the short term. Any bail paid can, and often is, applied to fines, costs and fees (in the event of a plea or guilty verdict)

Personal recognizance. Basically you sign a piece of paper that you acknowledge you're on bond, you'll behave yourself and abide by the conditions given you. It's a gesture of trust for defendants who don't present a danger to the public and don't seem likely to run off and disappear.
