Or represent themselves! I have seen judges let defendants go thru FOUR free Attorneys … Lawyers can’t break the Law or get ‘better deals’ other than those offered by State… just because they want ‘better deal’ or dismissal …

I don’t know if he’s one of the best but he is a very good lawyer. I’ve seen him onmany judge Simpsons courts and he always does a good job.

I agree they need to stop them attorney shopping. I saw one court room where they told the defendant they could get a new attorney, they wouldnt be attorney shopping and it was the last time they would allow it. If they want a new attorney they should hire one at their own expense

@@cynrok Law student intern yelled something that was not included in this clip - given that she is asking for permission to practice "under so and so" I am gonna take a guess that her client's case was called, and she called out for her supervisor because she isn't allowed to do anything without him right there, but didn't take into account that it was from across the room so it was too loud.

He cannot afford an attorney so the court appoints one. Unfortunately he is abusing the public defender laws. There should be a cap-one change allowed.

You heard the judge threw her out of the court earlier in the day. She was yelling out someone's name while he was on the record on another case.

They're probably both law-school students doing an internship with the attorney they mention. If they were licensed attorneys, they wouldn't need to ask for permission to appear under supervision. I do kind of appreciate the tongue-in-cheek way that Judge Simpson kind of toys with them, though. :-)

Probationary status. They get experience with mentorship from a licensed attorney. One showed up last year in Judge Simpson’s court with flying arrogance. Got taken down quickly.

I was simultaneously explaining a)Why those two people were acting so cluelessly. It was because they were brand new to courtroom proceedings. And b) pointing out that they are both not, in fact "new. . . attorney[s] as @kimberlysmith1282 seemed to assume. They're not attorneys at all; they're law school students. Which, again, explains why they're acting so cluelessly and also why Judge Simpson is toying with them.

Oh mercy, I didn’t know where this court is located, and I’m in the south, so I was reading MSU as Mississippi State University. 😂 ok, not THAT funny, but it did make me giggle at myself after “reading” it on here about 10 times. 😄

@@DaphneHarridge Easy mistake. Simpson's court is in Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan. MSU is in East Lansing, about 90 minutes away.

Everyone is entitled to a defense. That’s how the system works. It’s not about what the attorney “wants” it’s about representing their client. If you were in court, would you want your representative to think you’re guilty and throw in the towel? Or do you want them to defend you to the best of their ability? Some of the defendants are dumb as hell, and these defense attorneys have to work with what they are given.

They're attorneys. They are required to defend their client. Do you have experience defending a clinet in court or a law degree?

Yes! I agree! I reread my comment. Meant to say although we all need good representatives in court, it was the i guess the cavalear way the attourney was talking to the judge about a serious issue that the defendant had had charges before for dui. I appriciate the comments! I can understand!

@Remedey49 In Asia, people have worn masks _for decades_ if they themselves are sick. It's a proven way to have one more layer of keeping your germs to yourself. (Yes, I realize it's not 100%. But I'd take a reduction in the output of germs if the sick person has to go out into society.) I've noticed a very slight uptick in people doing the masking-while-sick thing here in the USA. So perhaps that is the reason. Who knows, but really, does it hurt anyone around them? No, it does not, so why do you care?

The female attorney under supervision yelled out earlier in the session which was when the Judge made the comments about name calling. That’s why she got reprimanded when she came up to represent her client.

Everyone starts out with zero knowledge. They are pre-kindergartners at this stage in their law careers; give them a chance, as we all have to start somewhere in our careers.
