What a beautiful story. Please consider being an organ donor. Check that box on your driver’s license! My son passed away 5 years ago and even though his organs were not viable for donation, his corneas were. Two young men in the Philadelphia area received his donation and are now able to see. As his parent, the knowledge that James was able to live on in these two young men is a tremendous joy to me. God Bless Dave and Nancy. Would love to see an update on this amazing story.

I am so excited for this man! I've been on a transplant list for 10 years now. I'm a veteran and was finally told no by the SLC VA, no lie they told me that they don't give transplants to people (veterans) who are disabled! I've been on dialysis for 10 years now. I got sick and died in 2016 ever since then I have a very hard time walking, and I'm in a wheelchair due to my falling a lot. The VA said I have to walk unassisted for 1/2 mile, no cane no walker no assistance of any kind! So I am getting sicker all the time, I've had many people offer me a kidney yet the VA said that they don't do transplants from living donors! I live in Utah and was told if I'm approved that I needed to move out of state for 6 months! Portland Oregon was the closest. I have a a small farm or a hobby farm and have no-one to tend my animals. Dogs, cats, chickens and 2 bulls with special needs. They said I needed to sell them and move! The University of Utah is directly across the street from the VA. It's a world renowned hospital! The VA said that they won't pay for a transplant if I went there! They also informed me that if I went out of VA protocol that I would lose all of my benefits permanently! Best of luck to you with your transplant!!! God bless you both!

I’m a firm believer in organ donation in life and after death. I came from Cuba when I was 19, and as soon as I got my drivers license, I checked the donor box without hesitation. Begins with blood donation and continues with something like helping a family member, a close friend or a complete stranger continue their life with our help. Don’t be afraid. Get informed. Organ donation is the most selfless act of a true human being. Think how you would feel if you were in need of a transplant. You would like for anyone to step up and help you right? Do the same for others. Save a life.

My hubby Harry was on the waiting list seven years and has now had his new kidney for four years in November. If you have never seen a transplant patient post surgery it is an amazing experience. When living with a person on dialysis, you tend not to notice the grayish skin tone and general haggard appearance. To see him in recovery with pink in his cheeks and looking so peppy was such a blessing. Best wishes from Texas.

It has been the hardest time of my life. It's only been a year and a half and I'm tired of seeing them like this. They have pneumonia as we speak and I'm caring for them. Dark times indeed. God bless you, Nancy. God bless Dave and his family. I've been on dialysis for over 5 years. 3 times a week, 4 hrs each treatment. I have a fistula on my left arm where they stick those huge needles. Sometimes the needles still hurt a lot, but for the most part I'm used to it and don't feel them at all. But everything else that I have to deal with is overwhelming. Severe restless legs, being so tired after the treatment, 32oz daily fluid restriction, watching for potassium and phosphorus. Unfortunately, I'm not on the list yet because I have a few obsticles to work on before they would even consider me for the list. I'm 49 years old. I hope to live a long life, but don't want to be on dialysis for the rest of my life. It's been a rough journey, but I have to live one day at a time. It makes all the difference in the world when you have a wonderful support system of family, friends, acquaintances, social workers, etc. I'm also a big fan of Dolly Parton and she has been a beautiful part of my support system, with her music, her positive energy, her smile, her bright personality and spirituality. I love Dolly. She's just a bright shining ray of sunshine. Sometimes I get depressed and I will listen to Dolly's music and before I know it, I'm in a much better mood. Dolly is truly amazing. Fingers crossed I can get on that list and be blessed with a kidney donor. I wish the same for as many of us who desperately need it. It's a blessing to still be alive. Sadly, there have already been too many patients who have passed, just in the 5 yrs I've been on dialysis.

So moving to see there are still good people in this crazy world. Kidney disease is a horrible thing to have to go threw. I watched my 82 year old grandmother go threw it for 3 years. The dialysis she had was 4x a week at a dialysis center and she would be there for 5-6 hours. She said that having the procedure done wasn't bad but having to limit her liquid intake was horrible. I remember her just crying because she was so thirsty but couldn't have anything to drink because she had reached her limit. Hope this man and woman are doing well!

@@thundercatmeg631 yes, you can get your blood tested to see if you're a match. Depending on the state that you live in there are varies kidney transplant programs with hospitals that you can go get tested at. I live in MI if you're wondering.

What magic story, I am happy for you Dave. You have an incredible friend in Nancy. I was kidney donor 12 years ago and went through the process that Nancy went through to be able to give one of my kidneys to my nephew. The reward of giving someone another chance at life was well worth the process of finding out if you are a match. I would encourage anyone to consider being a donor to help another person to have a better quality life. If all you do is become a donor after you have passed, then make sure it is known by registering and it will be put on your licence.

This brings tears to my eyes. This is so much more than friendship. This is love. PLEASE be on an organ list. Be a donor. Put it on your driver's license. Put it in your will. Put it on your hospitalization papers. Go the extra mile for OTHERS.
