Even the female fans prefer more male characters That's how they became fans... with countless shirtless, masculine men. If women want a girly movie they'll go watch Barbie or Twilight or pride and prejudice. When women go to watch a superhero movie they primarily like watching men as well. It's ubiquitous... the entire audience prefers male-centered action. It's more believable and it fits better for the genre. With an occasional cool girl superhero to add variety. And if we're talking about the comic books then the same mostly applies. Female readers generally don't buy comics they buy novels and they don't buy superhero novels they buy fantasy, vampire, drama, historical fiction etc. and the females that do like comics generally don't buy Marvel comics they buy manga and independent comics. And of the female marvel comic fans that do exist, they generally like regular adventure comics with some drama and romance... and not cringy feminist message comics.

At least the current Ultimate Spider Man comic brought back the Mary Jane we know and love even though it’s an alternate universe.

They reached the end of her character arc 30 years ago. A glorified love interest and driver of spiderman storylines. They ran out of ideas and made her a superhero... Somewhere.

The visually impaired like Madame Web (Cassandra), Daredevil, Blindfold and Destiny.
