I used to referee basketball and was a LHSAA high school ref, passed the test with a 91 in 1995. The action is fast out there and if the ref misses the call, there is no way to blow your whistle 5 seconds later. What seems like a foul to the coach is not a foul to the referee. Reviewing the tape about five times, I would say there was no foul. It seems like a foul because the girl ended up on the floor but she ended up on the floor due to her recoil motion.

@@dannybailey3720 Yes, I know and understand the "verticality" rule. My dilemma is: How is it called if both players are moving toward each other? It is a poor camera angle but if you watch the slow motion at 3:46, the shooter's feet are well behind the 3 point line when she leaves the floor and she appears to come down on the 3 point line along with the defender's feet. This tells me she is jumping slightly forward while jumping up. My question is: How much "verticality" is a shooter entitled to if they are not jumping straight up? The official that made the no-call and got Mulkey's ire was in perfect position on the baseline to make what appears to be a difficult call.

If Khayla were to have initiated contact as you decree, why is it that the Kentucky player made contact first? Nor did the Kentucky player give space for KP to land. This was not a James Harden leg kick or a Steph Curry / Trae Young shoulder jump in. This was a Kentucky player breaking into an LSU player's cylinder who is going straight up and down. I've watched this replay numerous times and still see no leg extension to draw contact. I've watched every LSU basketball game this season and that's Khayla's normal jumpshot. The same shot she used all game.

@@werbadgamers9521 I don't think that the word decree means what you think it means. I just expressed my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong in how I interpreted the play, maybe you are wrong. It really doesn't matter that much, LSU lost by a wide margin.

The problem I have with the NCAA whether it be football or basketball, is that half the teams on both sides of the field, after just about every play, ARE ON THE FIELD OF PLAY. Also, the NCAAF is very permissive of coaches screaming at refs. This lack of discipline promotes the very violence people get technical fouls and flags for.

Maddest I've ever seen a coach over not getting the call when their player clearly flopped. Loved how the announcer initially took her side because "she ended up on the floor" when the angle they looked at at the time there was no way to tell if their was legit contact. The profession of basketball coach is rather unique. Its the only one I can think of in which its considered alright for an adult to fly into a childish rage when things don't go their way. The same coaches later go on to say how the game builds character in young people. Someone doing that in a real job would be fired in a heartbeat.

Ummm, have you ever watched a baseball game? But your point about the character building in young people is noted. Most of the time these coaches do these things for the cameras. And of course to try to intimidate the officials. Sick of them thinking they are above the rules and treating officials like they are subhuman. At least a two year old has an excuse as they haven't learned that the world isn't all about them yet.
