My grandfather sang this to me over and over as he rocked me to sleep as a child . Clause Haverty of Detroit MI was the geatest grandfather of all time! Plus I was always asking him to put my hair in a curl like the girl in the song !

The arrangement Milt Franklyn used for this song changes the time signature from a 3/4 waltz to a standard common 4/4. I loved that when I first heard it in One Froggy Evening

My Mom taught me this song as a little girl. She learned it from her Mom.

Very sad song. Supposedly about a mother who lost her child to disease and misses her enormously. I love the cartoon 'One Froggy Evening' where most of us heard this song, but back story is sad.

Sure looks like a woman deep in mourning on the sheet music.
