The Spider-Man trilogy is another example of inspiring people to be heroic. A lot of the citizens weren't just useless damsels in distress. They, instead, try to take the initiative without waiting on Spider-Man to save them. For example: The train scene in Spider-Man 2 where Peter is exhausted from stopping the train and almost falls from passing out. But the passengers catch him and help him to safety. Even when Dr. Octo threatens them, they refuse to move out the way and tries to protect Spider-Man. Scenes like those are grounding and do an excellent job demonstrating the feats of every person. Even if it is as small as keeping Peter's identity secret or carrying him aboard the train, they are still notable and noble acts. I personally have an appreciation for the little things like that. It grounds the story--makes it more realistic.

Lois Lane was badass when I grew up. Did she get saved by Superman?--yes, but she always stood up for herself regardless of the situation she was in, showed she was equally-if not more capable-at her job then her male coworkers, and had a strong attitude all while being a very charming character. And they didnt need to call attention to it like "HEY EVERYONE LOOKS SHES BETTER THEN MEN SHES BETTER THEN MEN." She also helped Superman--AGAIN I SAID SUPERMAN--grow as a person and is almost always the one outshining him as a reporte, but never in a way that felt unearned you can tell she worked for it. That's when a female protagonist is done best: WHEN THEY'RE ABLE TO EMPOWER THOSE AROUND THEM NOT JUST THEMSELVES!!!
@logangotcha8429
@logangotcha8429 3 жыл бұрын
People need to return to this concept. Once people force diversity & empowerment, the 'character' no longer becomes a character, just a glorified advertisement. For example, take Ellie from the first TLOU & Laura Croft from Tomb Raider. They weren't forced, their character was appealing & they grew through character development. Their entire existence was about personal struggle towards their goals & had depth even if the object was material or not. The other smaller feats like being a chick was a side thing that just happened to naturally be there, it was never the main focus. That's what people need to focus on, the bigger picture of character depth rather than the stupidest small details that just happen to be in the character.

I feel like mumen rider is the best example of the hero's motivation done right. He fights tooth and nail till his dying breath even though he knows that he doesn't stand a snowballs chance and hell, simply because he refuses to stand by as others die. This isn't that uncommon but I love the fact that in this case he really doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell, as opposed to most the time where the hero just has really low odds of winning.

WW sees men with petty eyes . And of course her mother and most of the amazonians a huge misandrist. There's no hiding from that "Diana, these MEN 💩are your friends 😑😤" That's why at first meeting, she couldn't stand Bruce Wayne. How could this Mortal MAN be so "full of himself"? Actually, I think thar WW was done in this way on purpose, and Diana was a perfectly coherent character with her background. I mean, she was raised in a closed world with a very closed idea of what a hero means, it makes perfect sense to me that she behaves that way. She has never been in a real war and was always surrounded by people with the same superpowers as her. During the movie, she does not take into account the people around her because that is how she has been told that she should be like that, and until she leaves Themiscira with Steve, she had not contradicted her mother either. . From the beginning, Diana sees herself as the stories she had been told as a child. Mythological heroes fighting against other superpowered beings in a battle of legend. But, once she leaves her island little by little she realizes that the world does not work as she thought, and during the movie she sees that she herself has to deal with it. And at the end of the movie we have the sacrifice of Steve Trevor where she learns that the real hero is him. This is my opinion, and although I hate the final fight with Ares and I didn't like 2WW, I liked the movie and the final message it gives is that Diana ultimately decides not to return to Themiscira because she realizes if she stays there she will be safe living in a bubble and he won't be able to be the hero that Steve proved himself to be.

@@GavBomb1 Exactly I feel like some people forgot that we already have many well written female characters respected by most people and just try to make a physically strong character that doesn't lose any fight when the most respected and well known characters in fiction are controversial and have major flaws. Batman is super intelligent, rich, and a very advantage fighter but he's also narcissistic and has major anger issues, making him stubborn to the point of killing himself or others. Some people saw this and somehow thought that all of those were positives when they created Batwoman, despite the already existing and better written character, Batgirl. Batwoman never loses a fight and always thinks she right to the point of justifying her actions upon killing a version of Bruce Wayne that retired after killing a version of Superman. Bruce was very stubborn upon being blamed for actions, saying he had no choice while threatening Batwoman to leave him alone or else and eventually broke into a fight despite being a very old and beaten Bruce. When Batwoman won l by accidentally killing him with the help of Supergirl, no less, she looked sad for second and then the scene cut to her telling everyone she knew about it and then supporting her, saying it wasn't her fault. When Batman kills he loses himself and has nowhere left to go but hell but when Batwoman kills she is justified. Not only is her character terrible, she brings down the quality of everything around her despite being portrayed as flawless. Batman does the exact opposite and normally makes stories feel more immersive and serious when written properly while making the other characters around him seem more likable as people regardless of what they do because he is and always will be a stubborn sociopath and that huge flaw is what makes his character really perfect.

I remember Wonder Woman coming out when I was a teenager. I had no idea about the effect the media had on controlling the way we think of other media, so I had heard for weeks that it was an amazing movie. When I think of good superhero movies I imagine the Dark Knight. So, I was actually really excited to see how they were going to create a dark, gritty movie with Wonder Woman and boy was I shocked when I watched the actual movie. It was one of the most boring, cliche movies I’ve ever watched. I could not figure out why everyone was ranting and raving about it. Weeks later I grew a brain and realized people called it a “fantastic movie” because some broad was the lead.

Edit: someone who can edit, please make a version of the first wonder woman movie, where we just dies when she runs across no man's land. If the Germans had machine guns pointed at every inch of that area, she would have at least a couple hundred gums pointed at her, which.... Would have definitely ended her life. Plus it would be incredibly funny to see that build up, all the tension and slow motion, just for the fight to be lost within like 5 seconds

Really glad hearing you speak on this. Seems like people are starting to catch on to how this “feminist” and “diversity”(cause it’s also a black and gay thing) agenda thats being pushed into films, comics, games, etc and is literally ruining properties that were once great. Terminator, Dr Who, Ghostbusters, etc. As a day 1 MCU and lifelong marvel fan, it truly hurts me to see what this agenda has done to characters who can be good. And where the MCU May go following this formula. What’s even sadder is that these things that do this end up failing critically or financially. They claim they want equality, yet demonize men and still expect them to see their films, or play their game. Elizabeth banks told men not to see Charlie’s Angels, and when it failed she blamed men for it. Weird time we live in for people who love entertainment. It’s ironic because even the demographics they market it towards hate it because it misrepresents them.

I love your whole point about how heroes don’t inspire people to be more helpless, but rather inspire them to be heroic themselves. I remember this story in the comics, called Superman for the animals, where superman wasn’t really the main character of the comic rather this kid was, but the whole point was in the house Superman inspired this kid to be heroic himself. Then there was Superman the animated series titled apokalypse now part two. In that episode when Superman was basically beaten and broken by Darkseid, and he threatened all of earth with his invasion saying “ you have no choice but to prepare for a long and brutal future as my subjects and slaves”, Dan Turpin ( a freind of Superman’s almost in the same vain as commissioner Gordon) responds with “ in a pig’s eye!” And he has an entire crowd of people cheering behind him and Darkseid looks shocked at this. “ this is our world ugly! And you won’t get it without a fight!” He even goes as far as to attack one of the parademons and even frees superman. But by the end of it, Darkseid ended up killing him. And at his funeral, which superman attended, he looked at his grave and said “ goodbye old friend. In the end, the world didn’t really need a super man. Just a brave one.” And on his grave, it read “ Dan Turpin, earth’s greatest hero”. And to me, heroism is very strong in those moments.

as a male Wonder Woman fan my biggest problem with the movie is all the potential it had. They successfully made Steve a great character so all that’s left is to elevate Diana’s character. The amazons could be set up as sexist for justified reasons from there perspective humans are a male dominated society starting constant wars with each other so when Steve gets saved by Diana he’d most likely be held on trail. As Diana gets to meat she learns he’s actually kind of a good person and starts to question the Amazon’s worldview, it could lead to some powerful scenes to. Steve: “I don’t look like an innocent man, I could have done something but I didn’t, Maby there right”. Diana: “that’s not what I see”. So after Diana and Steve barley escape with Steve’s head still intact Diana witnesses the outside world of just constant man made war and destruction, making her morally conflicted on if or if not Man Kind is even worth her protection but Steve being a good person barely keeps her on the good side will Ares’s influence keeps her at risk of turning into a misanthrope. This would Make Diana and her choice’s more relevant to the story as well as turn Ares into the perfect Parallel to her. Maby When Ares almost kills her and when Steve’s dead flashbacks of humanity’s dark side flashes over her but then she starts to remember all the good she witnessed and finally made the choice to fully imbrace not being a misanthrope. Then she’d use the lasso on herself and be like. “Oh ya well humanity kinda sucks but there’s a-lot of humans I kinda vibe with so screw you Ares’s that’s the truth” and then she’d get the Zeus power up do to being fully on his side know.

Ares actually has more depth than that too. Outside of war he's actually one of the least wrathful of the gods, a loving father, and also a decent detective. He's also the god of masculinity, police, and rebellion, and he was prayed to for peace from time to time. Remember, most of the mythology we know about was written by the Athenians. They wouldn’t have been able to do that if she wasn’t there to be their shield. Why wouldn’t the mission have been completed without her? Judging from the movie and your own words the only contribution she did to stop the poison was the no man’s land part where everybody is dependent on her because literally nobody else would be able to do such a thing. @@Undubbedriah you said they were made-by-god to be undefeatable in combat. How does that not contradict your claim that she wasn’t born with it? How are they not dependent on her? Your own statements indicate that the only way they were able to make it across is because all the soldiers were shooting at her. So how are they not dependent on her for that scene? You can’t recreate that scene with another soldier or a tank because the mortar would’ve blow up the tank if they tried that. The entire no man’s land scene shows that they need her in order to do that, because it wouldn’t be possible any other way. Why would the sniper be of danger to Wonder Woman? She can react fast enough to block bullets with her gauntlets and a mortar with her shield. The sniper tower isn’t a threat to her, it’s a threat to the soldiers.

12:47 not a movie scene but napoleon did something quiet similar by commanding and actively particapating in the close range combat (loading the canons i think) giving the soldiers a boost of moral.

I can see the inspiration that Spider-Man gives to the kid but the same can be said for Wonder Woman when she steps onto the battlefield in the trenches. She inspires the soldiers, and draws the fire but I'm pretty sure the soldiers could have come up with something that draws enemy fire. We also have the fight inside the city. I'm not saying Steve is not a hero in that story but I'm more like saying that Wonder Woman is part war movie, there are a lot of heroes in that one. Another point is that Spider-Man can just as well say that he is fighting for those who can't fight back and what I mean is the people of New York. I mean, good luck to both the cops and the civilians to fight against Rhino. He's fighting for those who can't fight and I don't see anything wrong with that. Everyone has their own level they can fight at, both physically and mentally, sometimes you need help. I think the "fighting for those who can't" could be taken a bit too literarily but I wont pretend to speak for the director or writers of the movie.

When Captain Marvel was coming out, I was so turned off to Brie Larson and was having a discussion about her with my co-worker. A guy walked in and said, “it’s just another Mary Sue adaptation that no one will like but the media will claim it’s best movie ever”. We got married 5 months ago lol

I'm not actually offended either but she is not using the neuter terminology. She means men. Look at the Wikipedia article I posted when I introduced Steve Trevor. The penalty for a man entering the island is death.

It’s that same thinking that made her no different than Ares, while only difference is the fallen god of war was leading mankind to worse paths Hippolyta would rather hide and do nothing despite what Zeus created the Amazon’s to do, conclusion they both judge mortal kind(or men in Amazon case) too much they never bothered to look at the brighter side and caused more harm than good For Ares instead of trying to help lead humanity to a better path he only encourages their darker instincts so he’s the Instigator And for Hippolyta instead of trying to help mankind or follow Zeus’s intent for the creation of the Amazons she rather do nothing and hide away from them cause she judges them to much for something she couldn’t let go of the past which pretty much led to discrimination of men so she’s the prejudice coward
