The thing about Wonder Woman killing you need to remember is that she doesn't actually have a no kill rule. Rather, it's more-so something she'll do if she feels she has to, but would just as soon prefer not to. So like, in the middle of a war where a bunch of people have guns trained on her and others and she needs to take 'em out to save people? She'll do it, not because she wants to kill them, but because if SHE has to kill to stop others from killing, if she has to take that burden upon herself, she'll do it.

in regards to wonder woman i think it's more like she doesn't try to kill people but if someone doesn't survive her than shit happens. it's like when a cop shoots a criminal, depending on what the guy did the cop might not want to kill him outright, but he still has to stop him, so he will shoot even if there is a chance that it will kill the guy. and i think wonder woman would not be much different.

TBF it depends whether you're being pedantic about the word "perfect" because a "perfect" anything doesn't exist, it's not possible to be "perfect"! You can come pretty close though and I think it should be allowable to use the word "perfect" in context rather than as an absolute. I'd say that Aliens is a Perfect Movie and cannot think of a single flaw! {well unless you count Alien 3 - That was a FLAW!}.

I like the scene at the end where WW killed several German soldiers, but doesn't kill Doctor Poison, and here's why: Yes, WW kills the German soldiers in hot blood. She went all Super Saiyan over the death of her boyfriend. She had learned blind hatred. Aries thought that he had her on his misanthropic side. He wanted her to complete her transition by killing Doctor Poison in cold blood... to execute her. At that moment, Doctor Poison was a symbol of humanity. Her face had a good looking side, and a revealed ugly side. To execute Doctor Poison was to execute humanity as a whole. If WW had done so, that would have put her squarely on the side of Ares -- one comfortable with making humanity extinct. She refused, because she realized that there is a good side to humanity worth fighting for and protecting. This was brilliant. Perhaps it could have been handled better, but I have no problem with the message.
@Eudaimonist
@Eudaimonist 7 жыл бұрын
It wasn't the point of the scene that it was okay to "kill all the mooks". She was reacting with great emotion to the death of her love, and wasn't in her right mind. She spared the villain because she realized that she was dangerously close to turning against all of humanity. It was the moment of truth for her, and she had to make a decision. The scene just works better with an established bad guy because the mask could be revealed and the character worked as a symbol.

I also like how only part of Poison's face is scarred and hideous. The rest of her looks good to me. This implies that there is more Good in our species as a whole than Bad, or that there are more Good people than Bad. I reeeeally hope this is true.
@mothman7531

My problem with the ending is that when Ares dies, the sun shines and the surviving German soldiers take off their masks and seem happy. It makes it seem like the war and suffering was finally over and it would never happen again. But, not even twenty years later the Second World War happens that kills even more people and is even bigger than the First without the help of Ares. What was the point in her killing Ares then, if without him people are even more destructive? Is that the point?

I agree. She was warm, compassionate, and very likeable. She shared the same approach as Christopher Reeve's Superman - that sincere kindness we love - which was TOTALLY what she's about. If DC continues to releases movies of this quality consistently, they'll be truly great, but I agree with Doug that apart from the Christopher Nolan Batmans and Guardians of The Galaxy, this is the only DC movie I could rewatch without being bored (Man of Steel - Enjoyed it the first time, but would be bored a second time), Batman vs Superman (downright bleak and depressing), and Suicide Squad (So boring and disappointing).

I just loved the build up. She kept seeing horrible things and wanted to help and kept being told they didn't have the time to stop and help with every single terrible thing because there was so much of it everywhere. And finally she said, no, I have to do something, I can't keep walking past it all. And Steve Trevor had a point, that there was so much terrible stuff that if you stopped to help all of it you would never get anywhere. But man, she just rocked the house at that moment.

Yeah dude. In a weird way, that actually won the movie over for me, if I recall correctly, the No Mans Land scene comes after. I'll agree with one of the other commenters here & say that the two characters were fairly generic, but that small moment made them cartoon-y and helps the viewer know that it's not all "grr, we're the brooding people that you know are evil because we're not doing the good thing." Instead they were gleeful with the idea of gassing a room full of fellow high ranking officers. Small touch that worked very well in a current release DC movie. Probably thought too much into it, but it's been awhile since I saw a good DC movie haha

No bullshit I was suspicious of Lupin being the bad guy the whole time when I noticed he walked with a cane, I personally saw 2 characters (him and Dr. Poison) were the only disfigured characters in the whole movie (part from the soldiers in the background). I knew dr. Poison was in the Wonder Woman mythos and the whole time the movie tells you that Aries is recovering from his wounds and will soon be strong again....and we see a character using a cane to walk. bigevilworldwide1 It doesn't only exist in the cartoons though. The Batman in the comics doesn't kill either, at least not in recent decades. e.g. That was the whole point of the Under The Hood arc. (edit: And also The Killing Joke, which is one of the most famous Batman comics ever and a major inspiration for TDK. Heck, Batman doesn't even kill in the Arkham video games.) It's not really fair game to bring up the earliest iterations of Batman since that no longer meshes with the current popular interpretation of the character. And this is coming from someone who believes you can theoretically create an interesting, worthwhile story with a murderous Batman.

I thought it was solid, not great, but solid. I liked Gadot and Pine's chemistry, most of the humor, the color palette, and the No Mans Land scene. I am happy you guys actually liked it. Wonder Woman was a great movie. It is not flawless but it isn't trying to be. It is not trying to change the norm, it does what is expected from a super hero movie but it does it really really well. It is a fun, great super hero movie, with lots of heart and great characters. Personally, my favorite part of the movie was the fact that I actually loved Diana and cared about her. I cared what will happen to her, I got excited when she kicked ass, I teared up when she was sad etc. This is something that didn't happen to me in a long time in a Super Hero movie. I always liked her but now, Wonder Woman became one of my favorite super heroes.

The first Guardians was a macguffin story. The second Guardians was evil powerful being wants to control/destroy the universe. Two standard superhero movie plots, yet both were fun and interesting. You can do a boilerplate superhero movie, but the thing that makes it great is how is the story told. Are the characters good. I mean come on, Deadpool was hero saves a loved one from being killed by some evil guy, which was also essentially the plot of both Spiderman 2 and Logan.

YOU GUYS! I fucking love you guys! Thank You!!! Ares' death didn't end the war the armistice did and people weren't released from some spell, but just happy to have survived. That's exactly how I read that scene and it was driving me nuts that people kept completely misreading it. You are the first reviewers I've watched to have understood that. However, it was revealed at the end that she wasn't actually sculpted from clay, but that she was the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta. Remember "only a god can kill a god"

I feel so. Whedon directing Justice League's post production will likely force a more linear narrative with the number of flashbacks being able to be counted on one hand. Aquaman seems to be in good hands with Wan. And most of what we hear about the Bat films seems to be good news. My main concerns are if (A)Whedon's directing doesn't mesh with Snyder's. (B) the Flash film seems to be a cluster f**** right now with them not being able to lock down a director. (C) Suicide Squad 2 is in the same cluster f***** as Flash.

Wonder Woman was awesome, but it'll probably be a diamond in the rough until the movies AFTER Justice League start coming out. JL will probably be an absolute mess, not helped at all by the last minute change from one director to another. But if Snyder and Goyer are kept away from any future DC movies, things might actually go up from there.

What is so terrible about the Heroes Journey, I understand its a color by the numbers pattern but, at the same time its a good way to tell a story, the simplicity of its formula creates a concise yet clear story that, if properly managed could handle a wide variety of subjects, and provoke a diverse range of emotions. Case in point, this movie.

Arts Veiman There is only at least five different ways to tell a story in the first place. The key is to utilize it in a unique way. All the great stories ever written have the "Hero's Journey" as a template. Beowulf The Legend of Gilgamesh Lord of the Rings The Illiad The Odessey The Ten Commandments Ben-Hur (the original, not that God awful mess of a remake) And that's just to name a few.

You are picking the "feminist" side. Egalitarianism is about equality for all people, feminism was used to garner women's rights in the western world in a time where there was dire need for it. Feminism is an outdated concept, since there is no male equivalent. That makes it inequal. Therefore Egalitarianism is morally superior.

I'm pro Wonder Woman killing and anti-Batman killing. Because they're two completely different characters and different things are what make those characters compelling. There's certain aspects that make a character what they are. That define them. Sure, you could make Batman be called Leonard Jenkins and wear a pink tutu instead of a bat costume and be homeless, but it doesn't really feel like Batman, does it? And it's good that they are different.

This movie was bloody amazing. I still prefer Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but only *barely*. Wonder Woman was an experience that I *really* needed, and talks about things that I think modern audiences need to hear about in today's climate. Say whatever you will about Gal Gadot as a person (I know people have less than favorable and completely understandable opinions about what she's done in the past) but she *is* Wonder Woman and completely sold me on her as a good actress. Also, that No Man's Land sequence is up their with the Train Fight in Spider-Man 2 and the climax of Avengers as one of the all time great superhero fight scenes. People are going to be comparing future fight scenes to No Man's Land for *years*, mark my words.

Well for one some real fire would have went a long way. A lot of it came off as cheesy because they didn't use any on location shots once the fight started. Also I hated that Ares just became this hulking monster. When he first confronts her he uses cool psychic abilities and stuff. It was kind of intimidating. He should have kicked her ass in more creative ways. It's hard to explain. But he turns into Thor. I would have preferred if he stayed more like Loki. He stopped being sinister and that was such a shame.

I'm sorry but if you give this movies cgi a pass you simply are not critical enough. I want things to look real. I've seen cgi done correctly before. Just saying that Zack Snyder would have been a great helping hand for the action scenes. The BVS fight was far more convincing.

flawless: When Chris Pine is introduced till the no mans land scene was definitely and A+ Flaws: the first 10 minuets we're choppy. and the ending battle was .. ugh, seen this before.

That final fight could've been SO much worst from what I've heard about it in the original reviews. Overall, while it wasn't the greatest thing in the world, I thought it was fine for what it was because I cared about the characters and what they were going through at the time.

i could kind of overlook the less than stellar ending battle because it was still so infused with emotion (and i'm a baby so sue me) but yeah, it _dragged_. could've been so much better.

+The Ponderer Not really. I think the Avengers equaled Iron Man 1. Thor is the only one I actually liked better than Iron Man 1. They're all fun, but they're all so forgettable.

Mr4theLulz1 agree to *heavily* disagree on that front. I actually think iron man is one of the less memorable entries.

@Mitchel Anhalt No offense but Doctor Strange was kind of boring sure it had some impressive visuals that would have been even better had I not seen Inception 2010, but its plot was paint by numbers.

I think the comparisons between DC and Marvel are unavoidable, whether they're fair comparisons or not. I personally don't think Wonder Woman can be compared to Captain America First Avenger, aside from "hero is in a World War and must defeat evil bad guy". Their origins are very different and their journeys are very different. As for the fish out of water thing like Thor....again, their journeys are very different. I like all three films, so I feel like we all win in the end, because who wants to go into a film to dislike it?

But talking through the fights is something from the comics. There's where it comes from. I like it, reminds me of any important battle in comics.

did they miss the part where Ares reveals that the made of clay thing was a lie? Zeus and Hippolyta did the nasty, Diana is a demi-god.

I feel that, had we seen the Germans fearing for their lives in that last third act as all hell breaks loose, then that would've reinforced the notion that the reason they're happy at the end is because they were glad they survived that whole ordeal. However, I only recall seeing them try to kill Trevor's squad one minute, and then hugging them the next. That is why, to my mind, the scene seems to imply that "the curse was lifted," contradicting the message that, yes, people have darkness within themselves but they don't have to be defined by it; like Steve Trevor's character, they can rise above it and try to make the world a better place. Maybe the novelization will make it clearer.

I saw Lupin as Ares pretty early, because I loved the idea of the War God (who wants humanity to fight until we all die) to make peace seem unattainable. What better way to do that than bringing about peace and immediately wrecking it?

My favorite thing about the Ares reveal is that , my brother saw the spoilers and TOLD ME LUPIN WAS ARES , and even when I knew it was coming, there were no super obvious clues! Mystery is awesome when it's done subtly.
