Wonder Woman 1984 (stylized on-screen and often abbreviated as WW84) is a 2020 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Wonder Woman. It is the sequel to 2017's Wonder Woman and the ninth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Patty Jenkins from a script she wrote with Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham, based on a story by Johns and Jenkins. Gal Gadot stars as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman, alongside Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Robin Wright, and Connie Nielsen. Set in 1984 during the Cold War, the film follows Diana and her past love Steve Trevor as they face off against Max Lord and Cheetah.

Or the standard “no pain, no gain” speaker all too common in the 1980s, be it the Bakker family of televangelists or the Wall Street types like Michael Milken and Ivan Boesky. People wanted to be seen as special in the 1980s (as befits the hyperindividualism at the center of the decade/“Morning in America”) and these yes men were all too willing to oblige, as a means to an end of wetting their own beaks. WW1984 just phrases the question in a more direct way via the granting of wishes.

Max wanted to have the power of the dream stone, and it's revealed that the only way to stop him is either A: convince the entire world to deny their wish, or B: defeat/kill max. Max could have been a great, multi-movie antagonist. Slowly warping reality - creating a bunch of small "probably unrelated" disasters that seem less like some maniacal plan, and more like a twisted monkey's paw. The skillset they handed him was a perfect tool for building up a rogue's gallery, one that could be utilized in both Diana's as well as the Justice League movies. Man, they really just pissed away a ton of potential.

With Jim Carrey it made sense, since he was literally god, but I gotta say, as single stone that can rewrite reality just by touching it was too much for me. That is a universe breaking device. I know that the Infinity Stones in the MCU did the same thing, but they were at least several different stones, scattered across the universe, often heavily guarded or well hidden and Thanos had to go through a lot of trouble to gather them all. Also, it was established that one needed to be incredibly powerful to handle even one stone and snapping the Infinity Gauntlet could fuck you up or even kill you. Here, any hobo can make a wish and it just happens. I mean, has nobody in the entire history of the stone wished for the universe to vanish?

Personally I would avoid ww2 because simply it’s to similar to the Great War. Fighting Germans and Italians (because I don’t think DC would do a pacific theatre movie, with the exception being Wonder Woman fighting either Vandal Savage and the leauge of shadows). Don’t get me wrong, Wonder Woman has a lot of Nazi villains and they would be, cathartic to watch her pummel. But I think Vietnam changes it up just enough to throw Diana off. Napalm, helicopters, guerrilla warfare and a jungle environment are far cries from her the fighting style she was trained in and the war she already fought in. Imagine Diana and Slade stalking through the jungle, we here gun shots and think it’s the VC’s (something straight out of Platoon and Apocalypse Now ). Their ready and then through the night air, Cheetah pounces. Plus if they really want Maxwell Lord, they could use him as commentary on the military industrial complex. It would be like what Wonder Woman should be, a intriguing analysis themes of war and the horrors in its complexity.

She goes on a mission to find Faust and take back all the artifacts he's stolen. On the way, she meets the Justice Society, who are working with the Allies to fight the Axis Powers, and they work together to defeat Faust and the Nazis. @@mrcritical6751 Because that was a case of improvement in shifting tones. Wonder Woman's grounded themes and tone is one of the reasons many people loved it, so changing tones for the sequel was obviosly a bad idea. With Thor: The Dark World, nobody liked how dull the story and atmosphere was. So going from that to Ragnarok's much more colorful, memorable and well handled tone, was a good idea that paid off.

@@mrcritical6751 because Marvel knows how to control the goofiness and doesn't go too wild with it so it stays a bit more grounded. Marvel also knows when to shift tones when they realize something doesn't work, such as Thor: Dark World. The problem DC has is it never finds the solid middle ground or changes up something that actually worked. It just looks like they don't know what they're doing when Marvel literally laid out a good framework.
