Watch as the 74,000 fans sings the National Anthem after the microphone cuts out, at the Inaugural Home Match at Bank of America Stadium.
Fans started singing the American National Anthem, just before the inaugural home soccer match of Charlotte FC vs LA Galaxy, on Saturday March 5th 2022, just after singer Michelle Brooks-Thompson’s microphone cuts out.
If you've ever wanted to know what a packed stadium of over 74,000 people singing the national anthem sounds like, then here's your chance.
Charlotte FC had sold roughly 73,500 tickets for Saturday, and before the game got underway, the team revealed they had broken the MLS record with 74,479 fans in attendance.
"The Voice" winner Michelle Brooks-Thompson, has so much experience doing pregame anthems. She’s one of the areas best and has performed for the NBA, MLB, and more. However, she had never sung in front of a crowd this big. She didn’t have an amplifier for the majority of the song, which was a first for the singer as well. Thankfully, the Charlotte faithful had her back.
This has happened before at other events, but when you get 74 thousand people singing a song together, especially one that means so much to so many, it makes for a special moment.

My profile picture is from this game! It may sound corny, but it was such a magical moment! Fun fact: it was our very first home game and we kept the tradition alive. The stadium cuts the mic after the first few lines and the audience sings the rest for every home game!

I sang while sobbing…I have always shed tears when the national anthem is played. When I was young, I asked my father if it was normal to cry every time the national anthem played… he said yes.

Crowds singing are the best on many levels. All the different ranges and off tone voices making it sound better. The fact that this many people can work together in harmony to accomplish a common goal. The feeling the writer of the song must get when people sing it back to them. (Obviously not in this video)

Interesting! I went to the Inter Miami game with Messi in 2023. This was my first CLT FC match and it happened as well. I thought it was a fluck at the time.

@@colorin81colorado because for years the only things I saw that had anything to do with soccer were toxic, vulgar, hateful and garbanzo. People hate each other based on the club they follow, cause riots on streets, and I can't drive for 3 minutes through my town without seeing soccer graffiti somewhere. The mentality of soccer fans is one of the most harmful things in europe right now. I don't think the states will ever reach that level of toxicity, but it's really bad here. But worst of all, it's a dogshit sport. Compared to american footbal, tennis, motorsport, baseball, basketball, hockey, cricket, or even fucking polo, soccer is the most boring, shallow, ridiculous looking sport whose only saving grace is the fact that its entry skill level is so incredibly low that all 5 year olds get to play it, and then unfortunately fall into the trap of wanting to be soccerers. Then they waste their life trying to become professionals for a dogshit sport, ultimately fail because there is an insanely high oversupply of wannabes, and they are forced to become productive members of society, when their entire life they spent trying to be as unproductive as possible. Soccer is THE blight of europe.
