The Canon RF 85mm f/2 is a capable macro photography lens but this 85mm lens for the Canon RF mount does have some quirks. With a few setting adjustments though on lens and camera, it becomes much more usable for macro photography.

Thanks mate - yeah the IQ on the lens is great, I'm still lusting after the RF 100mm though......maybe next year, but for now this lens does a decent job. Thanks as always

Awesome alliteration to kick off Dave ! Never done any macro and think I need to check my lenses for those setting which looked really useful. Also the tips on the light were great as it gets pretty dark down there in the undergrowth ! And I'm clueless on the names and Toadstool is the one i would have used ha ha !!
@LetsClickPhotography
@LetsClickPhotography Жыл бұрын
haha yes Toadstool is what it will remain to me, although @andrewwaltonphotography informs me that the actual name is the Fly Agaric Fungi.....every day is a learning day :)

Great vlog Dave, even though the Canon bits didn't apply to me I enjoyed seeing the images. Great examples of the Fly Agaric fungi (toadstool 🍄). I've yet to enter the woods this Autumn but I'm going to have to get a move on before they're done for the year.

Thanks mate, yeah I got there early this year (this one was filmed about three weeks ago) as I missed all but a few last year when I went fungi hunting. There were far more around on this occasion. Thanks for the knowledge on the Fly Agaric.....every day is a learning day :)

Funny enough i was thinking of taking my 85mm into the woods the next time i get a chance , mine is the F/1.8 EF mount , just to try it out. You got some great results with that combo and the tip about the light on the mobile was a good one, i also used to put some tin foil in my bag for exactly this reason weighs next to nothing and can be manipulated to a shape that suits the light your trying to get on the subject. When you were saying about not mentioning the names of the mushrooms you were by the only one i know , flyartic mushroom the red and white one ! Your images of which were excellent.

Thanks Lee....I'm really having loads of fun with the 85mm at the moment, well worth taking yours into the woodland to try imo. The tin foil is a really great idea - one I hadn't thought of - that is so easy to carry around, I'm going to stick some in my bag for next time now (although I'll probably forget it's there and find it in a year haha). Thanks a lot Lee, hope you are good mate

I didn't expect another video so soon! You've been prolific lately! I have to be honest mushrooms in the wild absolutely gross me out, they give me the willies,especially those red toad stools. Having said that, this was a great macro tutorial. Always easy to follow and to understand. And of course always great images, especially the one at 7:30. Great stuff mate, always a great way h. Chat soon pal.

I do remember you mentioning that, tbh I am not a huge fan of fungi either - but it's the slimy wet ones that I loathe euurgh....I'm wrenching at the thought!!! And on the recent upload activity, a lot of these recent ones I've had on my hard drive for ages and just never got around to putting together - had a bit of spare time so thought I'd get them done. This one itself was about three weeks ago and is actually the newest one I've done. Off to the Lakes this week so hopefully get some good stuff from there. See you have a new one up today from the woodland so I will catch up with that later this evening, hope you're well mate

I wonder if you could use a short extension tube with the rf85 for even closer shots?
@LetsClickPhotography
@LetsClickPhotography Жыл бұрын
I've heard of folks using a 35mm extension tube to get approx 1:1 with the lens, you lose a little light which needs to be considered but otherwise yes.

Hello sir: Please help and give me some advice, The camera I am currently using is Canon EOS R10, The kit lens used with it is (RF-S18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM) My main subject matter is toy photography. The secondary shooting content is street photography or portrait photos. Now I want to buy new lenses, after watching your video, Want to be in Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and RF85mm F2 Macro IS STM or RF 35mm 1.8 STM After making a choice, I would like to ask you to give me some advice on which lens is more suitable for me? Thank you.🙏🙏🙏

Hello, it would depend on some factors. With your current lens, I would suggest dialing the zoom to each of the focal lengths and seeing how you get on shooting each of the subjects you prefer at those focal lengths, stick to the focal length for a couple days of shooting each. You will likely find that one of the lengths will naturally fit your style better. However you will unlikely find a 'one-prime for all' lens. Example, my go to are 50mm street, 85mm portrait, 35mm group portraits and either 50mm or 100mm still life. And for street photography I find stm lenses can be a little slow on focus speed at times, usm lenses are much faster so use a 50mm EF usm 1.4 for that.
