A very functional machine. I’m thinking of buying one, probably the next model up as I think/hope even though I would not put bigger branches in, it’s probably a heavy duty machine that can handle more. My tractor is rated at around 45hp at the PTO. I need wood chips on my farm for mulch and currently buy them. Yeah I once helped an arborist chip branches using a big chipper. I fed in a branch and was knocked by the branch once the feeder grabbed it.

That's exactly why we need this machine...wood chips get expensive. Plus it helps clean things up and compost faster. I'm sure the 8 inch model can handle things easier than the 6, sometimes when feeding a larger branch it's working hard but anything bigger than that I keep for fire wood anyway. The pricing was pretty good too compared to other manufacturers.

Awesome! I use ours all the time around the farm to clean up debris and mulch for the gardens.

Did you all consider the wood max 8H??? I’m down to either this one or the woodland 8H… any thoughts?

@@bman6502 well I went with the 6” cause I figure anything bigger than that will be firewood. Price was good and their factory is just a couple of hours away.

She is super sweet. I know u meant Stormy, Smokey’s is the cat who wandered. She’s been hanging around a lot more since Smokey’s disappearance. I miss Smokey a lot.

@@HiddenSpringFarm , Chad, I'm so sorry, I did mean Stormy. I know the pain of losing a beloved cat. Just last week, we lost our beautiful cat to the three most unusual cancers, all at the same time. She had bladder, liver and pancreatitis cancer by ultrasound. She died within 3 weeks of the first symptom of what appeared to be a URI. It happened so fast. We miss our Autumn so much, just as I know you are missing Smokey.

@@lee8300 don’t u worry I know who u meant. 😊 wow u think everything’s fine then 3 weeks later bam it hits u. Sad. Hopefully Autumn didn’t suffer too much. Actually Stormy has been limping, she may have strained something in her hind leg. If it doesn’t improve it’ll have to be a vet visit. Autumn is a nice name too.

Harold & Sandi, Morganton NC WE have one and love it. We power it with our very good looking 1957 John Deere 620 tractor. It has way more power then needed to run this machine.

Right on! Kubota is really good too, I’m just a JD kinda guy. Both similar price points when I was looking, but kubota dealer was way far away. Best of luck bud.

I have this unit and love it. It has a few engineering flaws that I could nitpick but overall for the price it’s great. I run this with a John Deere 2038r and that tractor is more than enough power. If the wood is green you’d probably get a 6” piece through it but I’ve found in general that a larger dry piece of hardwood will very likely cause you to shear the safety bolt. I will break the shear pin on the chipper shaft before the tractor would ever come close to bogging down. Ask me how I know…

Nice.....thanks for the review. Obviously, you are happy with it. I'm thinking about getting one as I'm a bit sick of my old clanger (which doesn't have a reverse either so it's a wee bit sketchy). I've been using chippers for a while now and I've had my fair share of getting whacked, spanked and fingers crushed by timber twisting or flicking as you describe. Hopefully, you have learned by now but you should feed to one side and then immediately walk past the hopper (to either the left or right depending on how you feed it and where the chute is pointing). Then you either wait (until the majority of the branch is through or circle around to keep clear. Watching it won't stop it jamming. If it jams, deal with it and repeat. Deadwood is far worse than green for spanking you. Greets from Australia

@@positiveaspect5730 yes I am happy with it overall. It’s been a couple of years now and it’s not feeding as easily as it was so I’m thinking the blades need sharpening. I think I’ll do it at the end of the season. It’s true I’m very mindful of stepping aside and if a branch is really full of leaves it can sometimes clog the chute so I try to plan things out first fall winter or spring so when I need to chip there are no leaves. Thnx for the comment eh 🤙

haha I bet you could Johnny. This chipper is a beast and doesn't make me as tired doing cleanup unlike a gravity fed machine where you have to always push the stuff in. Cheers bud.

I had the same problem with mine. Wood etc seems to get caught on the edges of the discharge chute. I open and close mine a couple of times and clean it up. Have not had any problems since.

Yeah the machine is quite the beast. Good bang for your buck, as long as the branches are trimmed right I never have any issue getting pulled by the feeder. It makes quick work of any big pile of branches. Should be a good purchase for years to come. Cheers, Chad.

does the chipper come with the PTO shaft? Why did you not chip anything larger than 1to 1-1/2"

Yes I just had to trim the pto to fit my tractor. It chips up to 6” I usually only go up to 4” anything more becomes firewood but it’s just probably what I had on hand. I have other videos showing different sizes.

I have a sawmill do you think it will hold up to chipping the slabs? Say 10 logs a day? Just the outside slabs. For compost. It will be pine. We will burn the hardwood of course.

The BIG issue I have with mine is whenever I run branches with leaves, the chute clogs. I've tried adjusting the infeed, but chute still clogs.... Very frustrating...

I have the JD 3032R. How did you disengage the PTO safety seat feature to allow the chipper to run while you’re out of the driver’s seat?

Put it in N and engage parking brake, turn tractor off. Start it up and ur good…engage pto and rev it up.

I have a John Deere 3046R tractor and im interested in the same model wood chipper you have. The problem is I cant run the PTO unless I am sitting in the seat inside the tractor. Im just wondering if you had the same problem and if so, is there a way you got around that problem?

there's a trick, I'm sure it would work with the 3046 too. Sit there and run the engine, put it in N and set the parking break. Turn off ignition and get out. while standing by the door reach in and start the engine, rev it up a bit, engage the pto and then rev it up to where it needs to be.

Great video and much better than others with more views. Do you fee like you have enough PTO? Do you think more would even matter?

Thnx bud. More pto doesn’t matter as long as you can run at 540 pto speed. My tractor is more than capable. But if you’re looking at the next level chipper for up to 8” u need more power. This unit eats wood like it’s nothing.

I have the same chipper, it's a nice unit for the price point, but the infeed roller is nothing like more expensive options (which have a top and bottom roller). Small parts of branches, especially from dead trees, often jam the infeed roller (at least on mine), when this happens you need to put the roller into reverse and then forward again. Is it better than manual feeding, yes, but can get quite frustrating. I'm considering replacing with a Wallenstein.

I'd go with the Wallenstein but it's easily twice to three times the price for the 8" model. Ouch. So I'm aiming for the WC88.

Is this chipper adjustable? Can you make it make smaller chips? I know commercial units you can change chips size but who has 250 grand for a chipper. Thanks for the review.

I purchased one of these and it chips great but vibration constantly causes the infeed control arm to disengage the feed. Did you experience this?

mIne doesn't vibrate that much to disengage. It does vibrate enough that those damn locking clasps underneath holding the two hoppers together keep coming loose. I wonder if there is a way to tighten the mechanism that controls the feeder?

Notice how they run branches with no leaves. If your branches have leaves not so good.

I own one. It is not all that good for branches with a lot of leaves. The leaves clog up the feeder. The problem is that it has to much distance between the feed wheel and the blade. Nothing pushes leaves through the blades. You have to run the feeder in reverse to get the leaves back out the hopper. Then remove them by hand. I had one from China before and the feed roller was close the blades worked perfect. The problem with it was getting to the blades to sharpen or replace them. That is why I bought the woodland mills.

Very good point. It definitely doesn't handle lots of leaves but what I do to lessen the issue is if I'm chipping a huge branch for a bunch of leaves I immediately put in a big branch so the wood helps to push through the clumpage of leaves. Nothings ever perfect though. The price was pretty reasonable too compared to the wallenstein. Made in Ontario too.

Dennis, I have the same problem. Branches with leaves clogs the chute. For some reason, they tapered the chute right at the base to create a narrower spot, which is where it clogs.... Most of the reviews I see, they're doing branches without leaves which is not reality... The whole reason I bought this unit was to trim and chip without storing branches until leaves fall off.....

It's a chipper, not a chipper/shredder. If you have lots of leaves and pine needles, it will clog quite a bit

@@kevinziese6503 yes, I realize what it is… the issue is I’m not going to “de leafe” my branches to prevent clogging… the outfeed is bad design because they tapper it down…
