You Tube is a great place to learn basic photography, but it fails at many aspects of photography learning as it lacks nuance due a wide ranging audience. Fun stuff, I do love a bit of ICM. My fave was the circular one right at the beginning. Really nice and moody one at the end too. 👌

Sony cameras come with those hot shoe covers as standard. It didn't take my co-worker long to misplace it. ICM is great in woodland, and that last shot was very nice indeed. Some great techniques for folks to try in the woods.

Canon will also supply you with one, if you're spending £6k on their 'flagship'! Or willing to shell out £12 for a single piece, rip off camera companies, good on Sony though. Thank mate

Great video mate and some really lovely autumn images. I'll be honest, I had gotten into ICMs before I left Florida, but in all the excitement of moving to WV, I've kind of forgotten about doing them here in the woodlands...this is a great reminder, thank you! And oh yeah, that final shot is spectacular and very fitting to the music behind it! Now I'm looking forward to trying ICMs again this winter and some of these tall straight trees we have around here! Great video mate, really enjoyed that one and good to see you out again. Chat soon!

That's odd, I definitely typed a reply to you last night, appears like it isn't there now! Have you seen one from me already? Typical YT not able to do basic functions! Anyhoo, thanks mate, yeah I'm really into icm....possibly a reaction to lusting after sharpness for so long, now I want anything but, plus it's so far removed from anything I do professionally that it feels like somewhat of an artistic release for me. Hi I enjoy taking ICM images especially in the woodland but I can tell you that camera club judges just don't like them, it won't stop me taking them though 😊 I have bought a cheap variable ND filter and use that for my icm shots, it works really well and I think offers up to about 7 stops I think. Regarding the multiple exposure images I'm fortunate enough to have it built into my Fuji Camera so can select the 'Average' option and just keep overlaying images until I'm happy. It's a feature that I should use more often.

funnily enough I got the results back today from a competition I had entered a little while back. I had two entries in it, one was an icm and the other was not. The icm image finished 3500 (ish) places lower in the public judging than the regular static shot.....but the icm still managed a merit award from the 'expert' panel.

Fantastic image at the end. Beautiful. If some had skipped over the start to when you are showing how to do ICM images they would think ya might have had a bit of a twitch 😅 nice tip on keeping the hot shoe dry. I don’t tend to do flash photography so mine never comes off 😂

Thanks mate, yeah I hear that Sony supply them with their cameras, good on 'em....it is a pain though when you whip em off for flash, I've lost a few in my time! Got a little case for them now though. Cheers Paul

I’ve seen the tip about the hot shoe covers somewhere else, and purchased some for my R6. Only problem is they are a fairly loose fit, and I’ve already lost two 😢 how good a fit are the ones in your link? That storm removed absolutely loads of the lovely autumn leaves down here in Devon, hoping to get out and catch some of the last of the colour though. Another great video Dave, thanks mate

Hey Martin, the ones I’ve got linked are a really good fit. I have them on all my Canons - R6, R, 6dii and 760d. I’ve never lost one through a bad fit (although I’ve lost a few due to my absent mindedness!). The reason I went with these ones in the first place was because they manufactured specifically for each manufacturer rather than a one size fits all. Click into place and fit snuggly. The storm never really came and hit us in the north west other than the rain. But the leaves are coming down swiftly now, I think one more high wind and they’ll be gone for the season. Like you, I’m hoping for one last venture out before that happens 🤞🏻🍁 thanks mate 😀📷

I love the picture with the twist but I have a question. How did you manage to keep the two trees steady whereas the rest of the photo is twisted? What settings did you use? Did you stack two photos together, a steady and a twisted one?

So little bit of a long winded story on this one. You may have caught me toward the end saying that I thought that shot was a bit 'too much'. Well on the way back to the car park, I passed the same spot and decided to try and overlay another shot onto the ICM shot (the one you'd seen me take earlier) with the multi-exposure function. It worked as I gained texture back in the trees but some of the ICM was lost. So in fact I ended up blending some of the 'lost areas' of the ICM image into the final multi exposure image in PS. I didn't think at the time to reshoot the video part as it was a spontaneous decision to try it. The original, as you would guess, was swirling the outer side and upper end of the tree.
