Hello: I just received my set Mid Size Carbides and need to say WOW, First off I was surprised to see how you folks shipped them, TOTALLY BLEW ME AWAY, I was figuring on just a box with the tools wrapped in bubble plastic, but when I opened the box, I knew right then that they are going to be QUALITY TOOLS. The feel of the handle, and the weight is AWESOME, and the HARD CASE/PROTECTOR is just great too. I just played with them on a piece of “fire wood” and let me tell you what, I LOVE THE WAY THEY RUN, SO SMOOTH AND EASY TO CONTROL, and for a first time turner (only been turning for 3 weeks) I feel at ease compared to a “standard gouge”, THEY JUST FEEL SAFE(R) IN MY HAND AND ON THE REST.

I want a lathe that plays happy music whenever it’s turning. 🥰

I am a turner that has been turning quite a while and I really like to encourage others to turn but I think it is necessary to learn about the lathe tools. Carbide has it's uses and can be very convenient but from what I understand from reading and watching videos on KZfaq, many companies are promoting these tools (which are really scapers) as the primary tools, these tools will not allow you to learn the shear cutting that is possible from most high speed steel tools. Turning is both art and skill and if you are really interested in learning it as thoroughly as possible you have to do the work.

Thanks for a helpful video (except for sound, that is). Question: What was the speed of the lathe in your turning demonstration? I have a set of these tools but have inconsistent experience. One problem I think is that I've had the tool rest a farther distance from the wood than you had in the video. Thanks again. Peter

Hello Steve, I was pointed towards your videos by Mike Waldt and I'm sure glad I followed up. First of all I like your easy going style and second that in addition to using all of the traditional turning tools I've been using carbide cutters for about the last year but not without a certain sense of guilt. When I'm removing material for example in a bowl I use the square tip cutter and it's hugely enjoyable and within minutes I'm ankle deep in shavings. The square cutter heads I buy cost about $4 so it's a dollar for an edge which lasts me a long time so I don't bother sharpening them but just put a new one on. I have certainly subscribed and I look forward to more videos from you. Best wishes from Ireland, Alan.

I like the bowl, and have been considering some carbide tools for my lathe, but the discrepancy in volume between you and the music got me bitched out. I was watching this at 2 am, and when it blasted the music it startled my wife awake... that, if nothing else might stop me from looking at your future videos.

The music definitely detracts from an otherwise good video.

Just bought my first lathe, i bought woodpecker carbide wood lathe tools, for the first time wood turner i heard carbide was easier to get started with.

Love the wood turning but hate having to adjust the volume every time the music come in. Maybe lose the music next time it’s really not needed.

Hey steve great Video's ! i was looking at these tools and found you using them. how do you like them ? how do they hold up ? is it easy to find replacement bits ? which set do you have ? i am looking at getting a set and didn't know which was better the 3 or the 4 set ? sorry for all the Q&A , i am new to turning and trying to get set up

Good informational video but drop the music and regulate your audio levels. They are all over the place.

That music is horrible, I'd rather just watch you turning in silence than listen to music.

Why would you not start with tailstock support? I would never do that on a rough piece without it, it'd fly off the lathe.

I couldn't watch this. I watch youtube videos with earbuds. Every time the music came on it blasted my ears with excessive volume.

Nice little bowl but the music was way to loud every time it came on I had to turn it down and then when you started to talk I had to turn my I pad back up

I’m looking at buying some carbide tools so was also having a gander at uTube for information. While yours is a good instructional video ,please,please,please get rid of that bloody annoying too loud music, I had to keep a finger on the volume button to turn it down then up again to hear you. I am sure viewers would rather hear lathe/ wood turning sounds than that awful noise. Sorry no thumb up.

Is this a joke? Music so loud you have to turn it down too low to hear the commentary, and then you see a chap with a perfectly good bandsaw using it to "knock the corners off" a square blank of sawn log. Take a tip: a bandsaw is designed to cut 'around' corners. That is why we turners buy them. But hang on - there's an explanation. He says he doesn't have nice round templates to get nice circles. Really? I have been turning wood for 65 years and never once used a template to draw a circle. I use a thing called a compass. For a bowl this size a child'swll do. For bigger ones, make your own. Please learn the trade before demonstrating. This video made me angry.
