We got through quite a few batteries in my house and the new ones are always scattered around in various junk drawers or storage closets. I got fed up with always have to hunt for the batteries I needed so I designed and built this awesome battery dispenser. Now all our batteries are in one centralized location making them easy to find and to get the ones you need. Also, I incorporated a small cabinet for smaller batteries as well as the tools you inevitably need to open those pesky battery compartments. If you'd like to build this for yourself, I have plans available on my website. I hope you enjoy the video and, as always, thanks for watching!
And YES... the battery trick at the end is real. When you oxidize the zinc in a battery through normal usage, it makes bridges between the particles and makes it more like a network of springs. That is what gives the battery its bounce.

Love your videos Drew. The best thing is that you have stayed true to who you are. You aren’t above showing your mistakes and a little self deprecating humor is always a plus. So many you tubers turn their videos into commercials and forget why they grew an audience to begin with. You haven’t done that and I appreciate it. Keep up the good work.

I owned a Cabinet Shop in Southern California back in the 70’s and I had come up with this totally new, never seen before method of hanging Cabinets that was incredibly strong and so fast. I came up with this Cleat System that I knew was brilliant. Bill, the true Cabinet Maker, came in and I was bouncing with excitement to show him my idea that I knew was amazing. So I show him what I came up with and him looking over his glasses and rolling a tooth pick in his mouth said “Well there young Sir, we in the business making wooden things call that a “French Cleat” used by French Shipwrights in the 1800’s. Dropping my head I did the Charlie Brown shuffle back to my Shaper and talked to myself the rest of the day. The Battery Magazine is a superb Idea.

To minimize hydrogen out-gassing in non-rechargeable alkaline batteries, an extra measure of manganese dioxide is added. As the battery discharges manganese dioxide powder changes to manganese oxide causing the powdered granules to bond both chemically and physically. This packed-sand consistency reduces the anti-bounce effect exhibited by the gel mixture when the battery was fully charged.

That's so cool and inspiring. This summer I plan to move all the stuff out of my garage to my newly built shed, then I want to insulate it, bring more power etc and turn it into a small shop. Will be great to finally have a shop to do wood working. It's tiny though so I'll have to be conservative about what major tools I get.

13:35 - He replies with: "Well, Dad. You could measure the voltage with a multimeter. A new alkaline cell typically has an open circuit voltage of 1.65, where as a depleted cell is generally 1.5 volts or less." But seriously, brilliant build. I love it. Well made wooden products always look nice, and this is one of them. I love the attention to detail, such as the knobs coveriong the screws, brass chain, and countersunk magnet to keep it closed nicely.
