I recently learned about this watching a making-of for the series "Star Trek: Picard", for which they recreated the bridge set made for the series "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in 1987. For that they created a bended wooden arch that went all around the captain's chair and was featuring an embedded control panel in the middle. They also used thin layers glued together; but not at once if I recall right, but piece by piece.

I think that was the easiest bent glue lamination example I've seen. I don't need to bend anything, but I may just to try that jig.

How would you trim this to width now that it’s bent? Can you safely do this on the table saw?

Great jig technique. Curious how you will cut that curve to the exact width you need? Stay safe and thanks for your very informative videos Wes.

Great job, Wes! I remember in high school woodshop (early-mid 70s), the instructor showed us how to do glue-bent laminations. I never did one but skis were pretty popular in the that class. You might be able to save your wrists if you incorporate a couple of quick clamps towards the ends during the initial bending. (Much easier and faster than the screw clamps.) Once you've got everything close, replace with the F clamps.

It looks like the handles on your clamps are hex shaped. Take a socket of the same size and use your power screw gun to do the initial turning of your clamps. This will speed your clamping time up and also save on your wrists.

What do you think about adding cauls to the convex side of clamps to distribute pressure and to avoid marring the wood ?

there are much better methods to making a proper bend and using proper materials. I will have to make a video to show the proper materials and techniques.

He’s gonna have a hard time breaking the glue lam from the form because he didn’t seal the form preventing the glue up from sticking.

Maybe ...Maybe not. By not spreading those beads of glue out into an even layer there's almost certainly some glue "starvation" out near the edges. Many contend the clamping pressure will spread the glue sufficiently. I don't buy that. I've seen too many broken glue joints revealing beads of glue that were only partially squeezed out and distributed. If you spread the beads out then you'll know you have continuous adhesion. But I agree, sealing the form is called for here.

Should have put a small piece of sacrificial wood between the clamp and the wood. Otherwise your are leaving a a depression on the outer-face of product.
