The Elite sharpener has all kinds of potential and this week Josh shares 3 tips and tricks to help you get the most out of yours.
1. The rear pully can be adjusted to one of two locations. It comes stock in the rear position for a strong convex grind but can be moved forward using hex key. The forward position will allow for a flatter gind.
2. Leather backing is ideal for 90 degree grinds and repairs. The leather strop replacement kit for our guided field sharpener works great as a way to reduce the gap between the rear plate and the 90 degree surface plate. This will tighten the gap to a flush finish.
3. Stiff belt kit is available on our website at worksharptools.com that work great for knives that have a straight edge and are great for reprofiling a knife as well.

I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm kzfaq.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

When you set the blade on the platform it looks like you just set the part adjacent to the spine rather than placing the part of the blade closest to the angle against the surface. May question is: what is the proper way to reference the blade prior to transferring the position to the belt to do the grind. I’ve seen different videos and some people do it one way and others rotate it so the surface closest to the edge being ground is used to set the reference. Thanks for the clarification.

Thank you for the tips. I have now done 3 knives to 22.5 degrees. I like being able to do flat grind now with the rear wheel in hole just in front of stock position for convex curve. For the knives that I do in 20 and 25 degrees with flat grind it will make it easier to use the worksharp stone system when out car camping to maintain sharpness.

Hi! I've just ordered the work sharp and the grinder attachment, but I have one question in particular. Often times when I see people using this machine, when coming to the tip, and rotating the blade to keep the edge consistent with the belt, I sometimes see people also raise their arm/elbow which I guess slightly changes the angle of the knife to the belt. Is this the correct method?

Whow, as a hobby knife collector that collects all kinds of knives, from antique, vintage to new. Poxket knives(folders), fixed blades, swords, all types and sizez, all kind of blade styles, and that is a lot, this is a dream come true. I've seen those homebuilt "Knife Belt Sharpener", and "always" wanted one so mucv. But i have 10 thumbs. I know you can buy a set now or drawings, but thats a lot of work for me, and it costs very much. Even the drawings, amd tven ylu have to build it from the ground, and need equipment for that😄. I have a good machine home. I'm sure you heard of it. The "Work Sharp Tools" a Ken Union design. I like it for what it is, but tbis one is for Convex Grind only. You all know its a great grind, to a point and for some use amd blade. Sadly, i cant sharoen my axe with tvis small machine, or i could if I took my time. It is what it is, amd yøu get just what you are buying. But now, finally, this is my next buy. I must ask, does it sharpen all kind of grinds like full hollow, full flat, sabre, chisel, scandi, maybe even Convex? Also, remeber I'm new to this, a full or hollow grind, does it depend on the size of the wheel? And would there be possible to change wheels sizes, maybe hardness and softness if that matters? Also polishing, something I truly would have done with Japanese wet stones, natural if i could choose and had the money amd knew. Anyway, how mamy grits are this finest white band? And will there be possible to buy finer now or in future? I would say that handfinished blades have something special about them, like Satin finish, Brushed finish and Mirror polished. But i also like stonewashed, some coated, it all depends on the knife and what you wamt out of it. Its a little piece of symphony in art, a makers dream, vis inner picture, feelimgs, emotions tjat makes knives so damn exciting amd loving. In some knives we find ourselves in them. 🌠

I have the Ken Onion elite but I Never use it with the knife attachment I only use the grinding attachment. This is my reason why when you use the sharpening attachment you sharpen one side of the edge with the belt pulling away from the edge and when doing the other side of edge the belt is going into the edge . This gives you an edge with a weak edge on one side. When I was in the Boy Scouts many years ago we were told that for a fine sharp edge you go away and for a strong edge like on a axe you go from the edge to the body of blade. Your system does a Combe edge. If I’m wrong on my thinking I’d like an explanation of how your system works

Great work as always. Just something I noticed. When you're doing the right side of the knife (drawing to the left), your lifting your hand a little, and it's not making contact along the entire edge :-) Been using this product for years as my mobile sharpening belt grinder. Josh, the low flex belts are great and I prefer them for curved blades as well as straight---they produce a flatter bevel, give more control, and are less likely to round tips. Shame you quit offering them for the WSKO.

Hey guys! Got this blade grinder attachment. Reprofiled more than 20 knives at 15 dps. On some i have a problem with a burr, i follow the instructions, but that little bastard stays there nevertheless (going from side to side after each stroke) even after the final polishing belt. Maybe i should try increasing the angle at 2000 grit belt f.e. 15 dps to 16dps?

For about 30 USD I bought your "LOW-FLEX" 1" belt kit for people that want a flat grind. I have mostly Wharncliffe blades for my EDC AND some profiles close to SHEEPSFOOT in various Wustof high-end (Icon and Elite) pairing and utility knife models. If I moved the pulley closer, will I need to bother with the leather shim? My kit: SA0003563 The Low-Flex belt kit for the Blade Grinding Attachment contains 6 belts with Norton's very stiff U264 cotton backing - ideal for straight blades such as Wharncliffe and sheepsfoot.

That is how they are labeled from the manufacturer. We do list them by grit when you receive the machine. X65=220 grit x22=1000 etc.

Doesn't the pause at the beginning and end of the stroke mess up your blade? You're removing more material from the front and back 1/2" or so. It may not be noticeable at first, but after multiple sharpenings, I would think it would add up...
@grovesy333

Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn’t it depend on what belt you’re on ?
@jimmyparker4335
@jimmyparker4335 2 жыл бұрын
@@grovesy333 The belt coarseness affects how much material is removed from your blade. My point is, by pausing at the beginning and end, the belt spends more time in contact with your blade at those two points. It stands to reason more time = more material removed = uneven wear pattern on your blade.
