@@1602FirePhotography I live near the Fair Oaks station so see them a lot and the engine in this video looks different than the one I see at Harris Teeter all the time. I was wondering if they got a different vehicle recently that perhaps I missed. Come to think of it, I haven't seen them at Harris Teeter is while and they havent been shutting down the stoplight on 50 as much and I almost wondered if they had moved to a different station for remodeling. Anyway I said Rescue Engine because on the rear left side of Engine 421 in this video is says "Rescue." Just the word Rescue all by itself in the rear. Not Fairfax Fire and Rescue. Engine 440 doesnt have it on there. It just say 440. Engine 421 says "Rescue." Words have meaning. I imagine they painted it on there for a reason. Or have they reorganzied and now have two vehicles a n engine and a rescue vehicle.

A couple things happened that might be causing you to wonder. One is that one of the trucks out of Fair Oaks station went off the road by the mall and got damaged a few years ago during an ice storm. And then E421 got stolen from a maintenance facility but was relocated. Also the blue and white engine they used to have has been put out of service I think. We went there for a community event and the engine was being repurposed since it was a volunteer company. The rescue 421 looks like an Engine but is different than the old E421 because you will notice that the pump apparatus and ladders atop the back deck are not there. I don't know if Rescue 421 and E421 both still operate there. Or if it's just rescue 421 and the ambulance. Th station commander told us when we visited it was one of the busiest stations in Fairfax County. The bloated question is a policy in Fairfax. Anytime assets are available and they are concerned about extension to a home they will send more than they need.

421 has a rescue squad and an engine as two separate vehicles. They have since at least 1979. They got a rescue engine in 1989 but still ran a standalone squad then too

@@1602FirePhotography I see so the rescue squad 421 is actually a big truck that kind of looks like an Engine and Engine 421 is an actual engine with the water tank and pump unit. thank you

Probably due to safety reasons, jumping the curb would have been very dangerous because at that point traffic was moving at regular speed. Same with going at the opening. Thats all i can think of

Most of the engine companies have minimum ground clearance. Had they jumped the island/curb would have likely damaged the undercarriage and or lots of piping under the truck.

Yes theirs and 414s have been in service for over a year now i believe
