Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves discusses the latest inflation figures and Labour's stance of not raising taxes on "working people".
Sir Keir Starmer defined '"working people" as "people who earn their living, rely on our [public] services and don't really have the ability to write a cheque when they get into trouble".
When asked if this was correct, Ms Reeves repeated several times that "working people are people who go out to work".

Tory councils have put up tax just as much as Labour. I'm in a tory run council and it's rocketed here. When the government cut funds to councils by over 30% they didn't really have much choice but to put up rates

@@stevec6427 There is a limit to how much council tax can change by. Labour are likely to revalue council tax bands, which in particular would be a huge increase in the amount paid by the poorest.

I went out to work for 50 YEARS, my wife and I saved hard for our retirement and now we have these idiots saying this stupid comment. We also still pay tax on our pensions, so are we not classed as working. I would like to sit down with this Harvard educated privileged person and give her a few facts of life. BTW in the 50 years I never claimed any benefits.

I know I will end up worse off under a labour government. I suffered through the last two labour governments. I was worse off then too. Labour government will always take money of the average working person. Fuel will go up. It will cost more to heat our homes and they will force everyone to get a useless heating system. I do not care whether he is wealthy and privileged, but it does irk me that he tries to paint himself as working class. His dad owned a tool making company and I am sure his dad had hard times, especially as he grew up during the years that the unions were on strike every week....something he proposes bringing back....but this was not the majority of Kier's life, which has been middle class. He studied flute, violin and piano and had been a lawyer his working career.

That is the biggest daft statement. Everyone council will become even more unaffordable then it is now. Imagine your council tax jumps up another £500-£600 per year. Less people will be able to pay… then council Want higher increases to fill the deficit.

After Labour win, i hope they come up with a better way or place to present their ideas and answer questions from the public. If I spoke to anyone, as the interviewer does to Rachel Reeves, i would expect to be told off at a minimum. Put a tax on condescension and there would be enough revenue for 2 NHS and an end to VAT.
