Good work Kory! It was well worth all your effort. Good on your camera person too. Thank you for sharing.🐴

Great episode! Thanks for your advice about thoroughly learning one trainer’s method before learning another trainer’s method. There is an internal consistency to each trainer’s method that builds the horse’s skill in a methodical way. Hopscotching among trainers’ tools just confuses the horse and slows progress. This training session was a great illustration of the point you made.

Not sure what happened. I put a comment and it's not here anymore. 🤔 It was amazing watching this. Sonora made such good Improvement and you read her so well during the training time. She did especially well that fourth time you threw the rope over her behind and back legs. What a good girl! 😍 Great job, Kory (and Sonora)!

I love watching you train horses, Kory. You are so kind and gentle with them, and they feel your positive energy and respond accordingly ✨️ Kim in New Zealand 🇳🇿

This is really interesting to watch your process. Do you work much with the totally blind horses that come in?

I mostly just work on handling the blind ones

Hey man I appreciate your taking your time with this mare but you’re not really getting anywhere by not making her move whenever she’s not focused on you. Trying to approach her when her focus is everywhere but on you will never get her to make the connection. Also using the flag to touch her before she’ll even come to you is counter productive to what you’re trying to do. You can much more effectively use the flag to desensitize her once she’s haltered, and after she’s joined up with you. Yes lots of trainers have variations of training but the principles are the same. I know a lot of people think it’s really sweet that you’re being soft, and taking your time but that’s a human thing . Horses don’t learn to trust or respect people by tip toeing around them or being tentative. I’m not saying you should be aggressive. I’m saying you have to be a leader. There’s a difference. You ended up getting a halter on her only by chance. You never got her full attention throughout the entire session. There is only one way to get a horse to join up with you. Being too passive doesn’t register because you aren’t showing her what the right answer is. I agree that all horses are different but not in this situation. Most horses get this pretty quick when you show them the right answer and correct them when they make the wrong decision. Allowing her to stop and look around when your trying to get her to focus on you is not going to work. This mare mare is searching for leadership not a friend. That comes later. I also wouldn’t work on too many different things in one day. Especially if you didn’t get a good result on the first thing you worked on. I appreciate what you’re doing and I hope you take this as a suggestion and not a criticism! Training horses can be really rewarding if it’s done right. It can also be really frustrating if you don’t follow the basic principles that horses understand. If too many people try too many different things without following basic principles, it will only confuse the horse and make her more mistrusting and confused. Too many grey areas don’t give the right answer.
