Davide Salvadore is a Muranese maestro descended from generations of glassworkers. He has collaborated with venerated glasshouses such as Venini, Barovier & Toso, Nason & Moretti, and La Murrina.
Salvadore combines traditional Italian techniques and elements in innovative ways in his personal body of work. His pieces reflect diverse influences, such as African tribal imagery, Muranese roads, and the smokestacks of glasshouses.
He says, “I encourage my audience to have a real encounter with each piece. I want them to touch it, caress it, and to understand the shapes and movements. Simply, I want the enthusiast to experience what I feel for my art: passion and love.”
Salvadore teaches regularly at The Studio. In this video, he demonstrates his skill with cane and murrine techniques at the furnace, and discusses his artwork, his personal development as a glassworker on Murano, and his philosophies as both an artist working in glass and a teacher of the material.
Produced from 1998 to 2014, each video in The Studio’s Master Class Series presents a portrait of an artist and teaches a glassworking technique. Until now, these 30-minute videos have only been available on DVD.
