Another great job Tommy! That was a very thorough and informative video. It’s awesome to see your tools and how you use them. I wish I had a real mortiser. I just do it the poor man’s way and put a vice grip on the chisel while my drill press pretends it’s a mortiser. Haha!! 😂Keep up the great work sir! 👊🏼👏🏼👍🏼

Ya know a lad knows his stuff when he uses a morticer like that; it keeps the tool pressure even when you cut with either 4 or 2 sides of the chisel....... ya start cuttin with 3 sides and sometimes it wants to flex, that's why you stepped over your cuts. I use hand tools, and one of my most hated jobs is cuttin a mortice........ I see a hollow chisel someday in my future 😆 It's nice to hear an Irish accent on KZfaq lad..... This Wexford man enjoyed your video 😁

Another awesome video tommy. I'm loving the channel growth and I can't wait to see you hit the thousand subscribers. Do you have to sharpen the chisel a lot and is hard to sharpen? Thanks again for another great video. Cheers mate
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I can't wait either 😂 don't have to sharpen that often and if needed it's a few simple rubs on a diamond stone flat with all 4 sides

Another nice video.. Like that machine, it definitely would make mortise and tenon joinery a lot cleaner and easier than using a chisel. I assume you can make a thru joint by placing a sacrificial piece of scrap underneath your work piece and just run thru to the scrap. I love the look of those joints but I'm in no way set up for it right now.
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jim 😊, yes you could do that but you would risk some tearout I would recommend morticing from each side to get the best results.

Nice machine! Would a drill press be able to do the same? Doesn't have such a sweet adjustable base of course, but does have a drill bit that goes straight up and down?
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dirk, unfortunately using a drill press doesn't work with the chisel and bit combination unless you get a morticing attachment available for some drill press to hold the chisel solid.

I've got a mortiser that connects to my drill press. What are your thoughts to this set up? I am still in the early part of my woodworking life(about 2 years) but I know this is something that I'll be doing for a long time. Should I spend the money to buy a separate machine?
2 жыл бұрын
I think an attachment for a drill press is functional for small projects my personal preference has always been to only upgrade to bigger machines as it became necessary. Try not to have lots of money tied up in machines and tools you seldom use.
