As supplied, the Mamod Quarry loco has a screw plug at the back of the boiler which is removed when filling the boiler; anyone who knows their road and stationary engines will be familiar with the concept. On the loco it’s awkward to get at and the water level can’t be checked when it’s steam. This makes keeping the water topped up not only extremely approximate but nerve wracking!
I sourced a banjo bolt and globe valve after advice from Facebook friends; the wonderful @GrahamAustinGardenRailwaysLtd joined them together for me and I’ve fitted them; a grand job.
You’ll notice some minor differences between what leaves my workshop and what takes to the rails. I did a wee bit of (very careful) pipe bending as my original positioning of the valve blew the fire out.
