Hey Toro revamped their snowblowers several years ago. I work in a large equipment shop and we sell the Toro line. In my opinion they are awesome machines. Upgraded components easier locking differential without those troublesome tiny leavers. Similar to Ariens. We haven’t had any problems with the plastic part of the chute. It would have been nice to see it in action. No summer snow.

Hope you'll do a video ASAP on their latest, biggest production e26 cordless. I like the Ego snt 2400 but it lacks the automatic shut off feature Toro has. That's absolutely necessary I feel, because no one wants to be constantly paranoid if something really hard or we drive it into really deep hard packed ice/snow pile. The Ego has the shear pins but they don't always snap and the electric motor actually won't shut off and will burn out. Basically a big huge and expensive pain in the butt to repair. The Ego does have nice dual lights which are pretty nice, two lights where the Toro's are and another foot long light, right ontop in the front, on the auger box edge, which are independently operated, one or both can be turned on at the same time. I called Toro and told them about that. The more light the better. I like the mono chute control on the that Toro which let's us rotate the location and change the height of the snow coming out with one single shifter knob. The Ego kit has two bigger 10 amp/hr batteries with nice fuel gauges on them. I think I told Toro about making bigger longer lasting batteries also but didn't mention the awesome fuel gauges that the all the newer Ego batteries have. Fuel gauges on the batteries themselves is also a must have. However the handles on the Toro 7.5 amp/hr batteries are a great idea! Never having to mess around with shear pins is a total blessing and i think it's about time all snowblower brands are made/engineered with this automatic motor shut off feature. Replacing shear pins is a pain in the butt and ancient technology. The Ego doesn't have a brake or method for locking the wheels. That would be a great useful feature, like for transport in a vehicle or parking it on a hill. I don't know about the Toro. I'd also hope Toro makes a rapid smart charger. The Ego snt 24006 comes with two ten amp/hr batteries and two rapid smart chargers!!! The heated handles of the Toro are excellent but are they actually hot enough?? Ego's don't have heat at all!! Thanks for caring and sharing 🌲👍✔️

Brian, I was hoping you would bust open the tool chest and start looking at belts for drive and auger as well as differential and motor pulleys. 😁 I have a 20 year old 1028 LXE which has stood the test of time and am glad to see the quick-stick and gearbox has been kept. Mine has the cable operated drive clutch levers under the handles that have never been a problem and are great for steering at the end of the driveway. There are mixed opinions on them but I only had a problem once when a cable stuck from ice but that was quickly rectified. Did you disassemble the unit at all to "look under the hood"? Great and honest review as usual, from a long term subscriber! You will never be lumped in with the fakes.

Ok, I have the Toro 60volt mulching mower and leaf blower. But I have had the Ego two stage all last winter. From what I see here, the Ego is a clean slate design with two motors. The Toro is like my lawnmower. Same as the gas but with an electric motor. I’d much rather have one battery type but my Ego two stage is better than the old technology, probably friction disk, Toro.

Toro doesn't clarify, but it appears that differential is the "auto-turn" used by Ariens and Toro. People seem to have mixed opinions on it, but generally most like it. Both wheels are engaged until you turn, then the inside wheel disengages. If the bucket isn't level or if it's on rough ground it can turn into a bit of a wrestling match.

Well I will say that to get a gas blower started at the first of season can be hard and gummed up. But after that it is easy and gas gives great power. I have a tracked unit can throw snow a easy 50 feet and travel without spinning out . We get snow here to use a snowblower.

I like the 3 batts, I bought the ego 2 stage this year as my ego single stage broke (my fault, I forced it through way more snow than it was designed for) I wish ego had made the 2 stage to hold 4 batts. Having a large area to do, 4 batts would eliminate having to swap out batts plus it would add some weight to the unit.

@@Jeo-What I upgraded my mower this year. My original one still worked great even being five years old, but I treated myself to the new one that came with a 10ah batt. I was surprised that the 2 stage was not yet available with the 10ah batts (even this year I have not seen them at lowes). As it turns out, I was not at fault for breaking the single stage blower. Something was wrong with one of the batteries which fried the motherboard. It took a local shop till June or July of this summer to get it repaired. I was a little pissed that ego did not just replace it for me but they did replace the one battery so it is what it is. I gave my old mower which was ego's first self propelled (1000 watt brushed motor) to my in-laws, my mother in law loves it. I think I am done for awhile. I have 1x 10ah, 5x 7.5ah 2x 5ah and a 2ah. @eosjoe565
@eosjoe565 3 жыл бұрын
Ok... you know it's bad when you start commenting on your own comments. :-) I have a feeling that instead of direct drive motors for the tires they are using the same kind of spring-loaded friction wheel drive plate system as is used on a gasoline powered snow blower. That would mean the motor you hear running when you turn it on is the motor spinning the friction wheel drive plate. Is that correct?
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict 3 жыл бұрын
This is made just like a gas snow blower, so yes, that electric motor is spinning everything a gas engine would be. It makes this a simple thing for Toro to make and easy for people to get used to.
@eosjoe565
@eosjoe565 3 жыл бұрын
@@WorkshopAddict Agree. That is a very smart design and probably saves a lot of money not having those extra motors. Hopefully they pass the savings on to the customer. It does seem a bit dumb to have that motor spinning all the time once the key is turned on. It would seem a very simple process to have a switch on the drive paddle that once the key is on and you start to press the drive lever that a switch makes contact and starts the drive motor.
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict 3 жыл бұрын
LOL. When you say dumb to think the motor is spinning all the time, I think of my car idling at a stop sign and someone thinking it is smart for it to turn off for the 10 seconds I stop and have it turn back on. All the extra parts and wear on things just to save a bit of energy. Keep it simple and make quality.

@@WorkshopAddict But your car is gasoline. Don't get me started on those silly auto-stop systems. :-) This is the first battery powered tool that I've seen that keeps a motor spinning even when you aren't performing work. It would be like if Tesla kept an electric motor spinning all the time and then engaged the wheels with a clutch. As you know, power budget is everything with a battery powered device. Maybe Toro will realize their mistake prior to release and attach linkage for a motor control switch on the motor control paddle.

Thank you for this video. I have been watching closely on cordless 2 stage snow blower and this is what I think about this unit: Pro: - Currently can hold up to 3 7.5Ah batteries for larger property & longer runtime and possible larger batteries in the near future - has larger auger options from 24" to 28" compared to competitions with 24" only - Anti-Clogging system no other competitions has - Hand Warmer - Belt drive system sounds quieter during operation without high pitch motor sound like most competitions - Quick Stick directional chute control way batter than the dual lever system by competitions - Industrial grade hardened auger gearbox with auto stop without the need of replacing shear pins Con: - Old design with one motor drives both auger gearbox and friction disk for the wheels with two belts that require replacement and maintenance compared to competition's two brushless direct drive motors - Much heaver and deeper than the competitions for maneuverability - More small parts and takes longer time to assemble compare to the competitions - Takes up to twice as much time to recharge all the included batteries than the competitions - Metal skid shoes that scratch the drive way compare to harden plastic used by competitions - 3 year warranty compare to up to 5 year warranty by competitions - Poor location of small LED light compare to front auger and higher location control center LED light strips by competitions I do find it interesting that Toro did not re-engineer their unit from ground up like their cordless competitors and still driving the auger gear box and the wheel with through friction disk with two separate belts to power the unit from one brushless motor while their competitors are using two brushless motors to power their unit like an EV car would . I am sue it cost Toro a lot less just swap the gas engine with a electric motor with battery housing while keeping all the old gas unit parts; however, I do have a hard time spending premium cash for a new EV car that still needs two timing belts to power the unit that requires regular maintance in 2021/2022. Once Toro starts to sell their 60V battery motor assembly to their authorized service dealers to convert the excising gas snow blower (or any other small gas engine equipment) especially to meet the 2025 California small gas engine banning law the transition process should be much easier for the gas engine owners since they are all still on the old drive belt driven system. It's going to be good time to be Toro authorized service dealers $$$ for years to come.

It is absolutely ingenious that they did everything like their gas snow blowers And did not fall the competitors with all the new gadgets and electronics!! They went with the proven system that's better around forever that works. The parts will be available So easy, so easy to fix It's identical to the gas model 826. I can tell you from fixing electronics for 30 years that the Ryobi, Snow Joe, and ego that took advantage of all the fun electronics THESE WILL FAIL WITHIN 5 YEARS I GUARANTEE IT!! Circuit boards, cold solder joints and everything else can happen and good luck finding parts for this new technology and everything in between.. much harder to fix!! And also this unit is built better than all of the others I just mentioned easily better!! Maneuverability it's way more maneuverable than any of the other products IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT TORO THEY HAVE AUTOMATIC STEERING ON THIS UNIT IT'S CALLED AUTOMATIC DIFFERENTIAL STEERING!! IT WORKS FANTASTIC YOU COULD TURN IT LIKE A SHOPPING CART BECAUSE THE AXEL IS NOT FIXED!! Both tires will spin when you go straight then when you turn they will automatically unlock so you can do a zero turn YOU CANNOT DO THIS TYPE OF MANEUVERABILITY ON THE OTHER MACHINES!! Don't be someone's guinea pig jump into the electronics and all these crazy things they can do with the other companies.. It's not a proven technology And most likely we have issues.. The friction desk is a proven technology and works fantastic lasts forever easy to repair.. Taking the gas model version and just putting an electric battery powered brushless motor is intelligent.. That's why I love Toro innovate where they have to, And they know what matters and what doesn't. All that other electronics and gadget crap does not matter!! Moving the gear shifts on a friction plate is very simple.. I don't know how it could be any more simpler. And I've seen all the other videos and even tried some of them like the ego and others. They're not as well built, again their technology is not proven look for repairs That no one knows how to fix and might be impossible to get the parts, AND THEY ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO AS GOOD AS MADE AS THIS UNIT OR EVEN PERFORM AS WELL!! This unit will go through anything just like their gas 826. I just don't think people see the forest for the trees when it comes to this unit It's the best one out there. And not to mention they have the best batteries in the its class and the highest quality cells.. The only downfall is Toro was so off on their runtime none of these two stage snow blowers that a battery powered are going to last more than 30 minutes with a couple of batteries over 8 in!! And the Toro is certainly not going to do 30 cars with 10 inches of snow that Toro claims no way know how no no no!! They do make fast chargers that charge the batteries in about an 1 and 15 minutes But you have to buy these separate they are $100 a piece. I think that Toro because they're so disingenuous about the runtime on these machines which is one of the biggest reasons why people bought them. They should give everybody fast chargers and an extra third battery!! With the current model and the batteries that come with it BECAUSE I OWN IT I WILL TELL YOU THIS.. I WOULD ONLY RECOMMEND THIS UNIT IF YOU HAVE A FOUR CAR DRIVEWAY MAYBE 10 FT WIDE, A SMALL FRONT SIDEWALK WITH THE SMALL FRONT DRIVEWAY THAT THE PLOW PLOWS IN, AND A SMALL 25X25 PATIO IN THE BACK. It will do all of that on The batteries if you plan correctly.. Anything bigger you going to have to buy fast chargers, and probably two more batteries, which is going to run you over $1,000 more to do a big property. Better off getting the 826 gas version that only cost $1,300 versus paying $2,800 or more to get correct amount of batteries and fast chargers to do any big property.. I guess if you're rich by three sets of batteries and fast charges. Pay 36 to $3,800 🤣 But who has that type of money to waste. Just get the 826 gas model which is the best selling model, and best performing model according to experts and consumer reports of any snowblower. Just keep throwing gas in it ;)

I'd really like to own this snowblower. I really would. But with a sufficient set of batteries to handle the worst it might face, the e26 costs nearly twice as much as a comparable gas machine. On top of this, the batteries need to be replaced every half-dozen years (give or take) at a cost nearly equal to a brand new gas machine ... in fact, over the next 20 years, I could probably replace my *entire* gas machine every few years for less total money. Forget about oil changes, belt adjusting, and tune-ups -- just buy a new machine. Once Toro designs a proper battery-powered snowblower from the ground up, and once batteries cost 25-cents-on-the-dollar compared with today -- *then* battery-powered snowblowers might make sense. For now, a superfluous power train and batteries that cost a fortune (now and later) are show-stoppers.

THERE ARE NO SHEAR BOLTS ON THIS UNIT. When they say it's exactly like the gas model it's exactly like the 826 gas model with hand warmers basically in every way but the electric motor ingenious!! It even performs as good if not better than the gas model!! The only downfall of electric two-stage snow blowers with batteries is the runtime unfortunately they are way off in there statement that it does 30 cars in 10 in of snow not close no way know how no battery power two stage does that.. You can look for about 30 minutes of runtime in 8 in or more That's it. So if you have a big property you want to have the gas version the 826 so you can continuously pour gas in it when it runs out. After the batteries run out it takes 3 and 1/2 hours to charge. They do have fast chargers but that cost you an extra $100 per battery That will charge the batteries in 1 hour and 20 minutes. But In a big snow storm with lots of snow with a lot of property, who wants to snow blow for 30 minutes charge the batteries for a 3 and 1/2 hours or 1 hour and 20 minutes keep going through that cycle over and over.. I would say this product is good for no more than a four car driveway 10 ft wide with a small front walkway and of course the plowed in front of the driveway, and a small back yard like a 25x25 patio YOU WILL NOT GET ANY MORE DONE THAN THAT WITH THESE BATTERIES I GUARANTEE IT. Just so disappointing that Toro was so wrong about their claims.. because of their disingenuous claims they should be giving everybody who bought these units fast chargers, and an extra third battery and that still won't even come close to their claims but it would help a lot.. Has the anti clogging system, no sheer bolt technology. With a hardened professional gearbox. They are just regular bolts that hold everything together. Basically works like their gas models If you hit something heavy or ice the engine just stops not doing any damage to the gearbox or the belts. Then you just turn the machine back on and you're ready to go.

Ouch. A 'gas' machine driven by an electric motor is a Frankensteins' monster. Keeping the entire transmission and pressure plate systems handles the problem of maintaining a constant augur speed while allowing a selectable wheel-drive RPM. Instead, they should skip the 250 extra transmission parts and drive the two systems with two separate motors ...a simple-on/off augur motor and a variable-speed wheel-driving motor ...even simpler -- a motor for each wheel for true power steering and (possibly) a motor in place of the augur gearbox.

@@WatsitTooyah I do too. Bought one about a month ago. Working good so far. Not quite as much power as I would like at the bottom of the driveway where the heave snow is from the plow. No big deal.

@@FatHulkRideEbike How does it compare to a gas model? I have no experience with those. I'm happy with mine it got me through record snowfall about 18 inches

@@WatsitTooyah My Ariens Deluxe 24" had more power and threw the snow further, but I'm not going to miss the gas / oil and cleaning carbs. The Toro will be adequate for my driveway. I think at the price point it should come with the quick chargers. No major complaints though.
