Hi loves!
Some of you may have heard the DRAMA surrounding Casting Director Workshops in the past couple years. Here's the lowdown on what happened, and how I feel about it.
Also... there ARE some workshops out there still! Here's some good ones:

Here in flyover country we have a couple different versions.. the first would be the scouting/modeling competition that takes place in a hotel ballroom where some fancy casting director from LA flies in and tells the local rubes they have "talent". Those are definitely a scam. The second are the "workshops" or classes regional casting directors sometimes host at their offices; usually taught by a veteran actor, they are called workshops because they can't be advertised as classes without state accreditation; but in my view these are the best training available in small cities and a step above the classes offered at local community theaters which are usually poor quality because those are geared towards complete beginners.. I also know of two local casting directors who periodically do workshops where they talk about what to expect at an audition and there is a Q+A, and as far as I can tell its basically a way for them to make some income between casting assignments (which are scarce).

Is it necessary to live in LA or Hollywood or even CA to work in the acting industry w/so much digital access for casting, classes, etc...?

It used to be, but now in the times of Covid... not really! A lot of actors are actually moving out of LA to save money since almost all auditions are virtual now.
