i definately do not want to diminish his performance, you simply have to play great to turn a draw into a win, but i can´t shake the feeling that his oponent was just stupid... if you know your position is a draw, why play somethign where you are not sure it is still a draw or a loss. why risk it, take the draw against someone like carlsen. at least that´s what i think

If you lose, it was a blunder. If you win, it was a sacrifice :-)
@maxkho00
@maxkho00 4 жыл бұрын
@@jrd33 There was this one time when I played an NM (I am currently rated 1400) and he, like NMs do, trapped my queen. Of course, I completely overlooked the threat of my queen getting trapped, but I did manage to squeeze two knights out of the position and, additionally, get a monster outpost for a knight of my own. Funnily enough, since the position was so closed, the loss of my queen didn't affect the gameplay at all (the queen was trapped on the queenside, while my upcoming attack was on the kingside), but it was eventually my knight that played a crucial role in my eventual checkmate of the NM. At the time, I thought that I had blundered my queen, but it eventually "turned" into a sacrifice. Moral of the story: if you blunder a piece, just play on, because if you go on to win you can claim that this was the plan all along :p

@@maxkho00 Well it makes sense. 9/10 we don't want to lose our queen. But if we're going to lose our queen, we gain the privilege of doing a huge amount of damage with it before it dies. So normally you're trading the piece for tempo or a good position. Not only do you get to attack whereever you want now but your opponent is forced to take the Queen afterwards, giving you the follow-up attack.

Can you please do a series of your top 10 or top 20 players of all time? Maybe do one episode a week talking about the player, their career/playing style, and their legacy? It would be very educational and interesting to those of us who are new to chess.

Great game. Carlsen is a Knight master. If you want to defeat him, always take away his Knights, he always comes out with some nonlinear line with them.
