Toronto is the fourth largest city in North America. It's in Metropolitan melting pot just like ours. Almost every culture on earth is represented in this Canadian city. It has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years, embracing its immigrant population in a way few cities do.
Known as one of the friendliest places on the planet, Toronto, Ontario, gives you a feeling every city could be like this. Whether it is Caribbean culture, European lineage, or African diaspora, this town has a lot of great energy.
One of the thriving cultures here is the Somali community. Somalia is a country in East Africa that has recently been placed on the travel ban list. Many came here after a civil war and famine, which ravished the country. They've been able to maintain their cultural heritage while assimilating to a new reality.
Yasmin Warsame is a Somali-Canadian supermodel and activist who has lived in Toronto for a very long time. She broke down some cultural barriers and told me about her story.
The Somali-American celebrity chef Roble Ali took us to the Dixon Housing Projects, a primarily Somali neighborhood where some of his family from Somalia live.
