@@NisseOhlsen I know this only match on ATP tour between Pete and Roger is a strong argument for all Federer Fans. Yes ok Roger played well at that day! But it was an extremely close match and both of them could have won. Pete could olso have won in 3 or 4 sets if he would have won the tiebreaker of the 1st set. He really had a lot of bad luck and it was not Petes day.

@@NisseOhlsen lol 2001 the grass at Wimbledon was already slow. Autumn of 2000 the grass was changed to perennial rye slow grass. Federer never beat Sampras on true grass. The rain speeded up the slow grass a little bit and helped Goran to win that year. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1310082/Centre-court-debut-for-a-new-Wimbledon-seed.html

The thing that I respect most about Sampras is that he NEVER brought up his Thalassemia Minor condition. I am sure it affected him on many occasions, likely in the poor performances of US Open Final losses to Safin and Hewitt.
@joemarshall4226
@joemarshall4226 2 жыл бұрын
The loss to Jaime Izaga at the US Open was the most obvious time for the disease to effect him. I think all the top players have to hide their weaknesses, because other players will look for it if you don't.

@Yintelligent it comes probably from an appreciation for „don‘ t look for excuses attitude“, but at the same time I could ask you why should it be known? It is a private matter at the end.

@@joemarshall4226Rencently, on another channel, I've mentioned what I'm about to write again. I think early 20'S Sampras thought he could get away with his condition. Late 20's Sampras couldn't anymore. It wasn't an on/off switch kind of thing. It was progressive, in a negative way. Nothing to do about it. I personally think Pete Sampras adapted very well.

And I thought 62-64 was a lot in my RF97, judging by the reaction of the "stringers" when I was telling them what tension I want. Love a high strung racquet. You can feel the ball crushing into the strings and the control is out of this world good.

His historic serve is proved in some indirect ways in the stats rather than direct. Aces go to other people, but in terms of hold percentage in big matches...Pete was broken all of 4 times in 7 Wimbledon finals. Just 4. Let that sink in.

I found the comment about tennis being 1 on 1 and having a degree of harshness to it for that reason really insightful. It brings so much meaning to the pain I felt when I played, and I also feel like Andre was always bitter about being on the losing end to Pete and maybe he needs to hear this comment as well. There's no hard feelings and no ill intent, it's just the nature of the game.

Great guy, that Pete. Never saw him being infair or unsportsmanlike. Probable the overall best attacking player the games has seen I’m a Fed fan and a McEnroe fan, that’s how I call it. Edberg had perhaps even greater volleys but not the formidable forhand and serve of Sampras.

Pete Sampras was so insightful in this interview. What I said was infinitely and further and furtherly and highly and high and tall and taller and far and beyond and hundred percent and beyond and funny and fully and divinely and mystically and amazingly and magically and fantastically and brilliantly and excellently and exceptionally and marvellously and perfectly and crisply and accurately and precisely and accurate and precise. :) :D :3
