It's a different playstyle from my usual light cruiser play, that's what's probably been throwing me off most. I normally see light cruisers as oversized DDs, very aggressive ships. Definitely looking forward to the Cleveland by now, and the Worcester eventually :)

Nope, it deals more dmg to lightly armored ships (like dd) when your ap rounds would overpen(25%dmg) Lightcruiser dont overpen with their 152mil , some that shoot straight and high velocity may get halfpen here and there Usa light line has very high arc‘s, i even got cita hot once on north carolina deck in the cleveland, cruiser that only shoot he, like takao, chapayev etc obviously use it against dd too cause why reload (their ap doesnt do much more dmg then he, plus you‘d lose good chance for fire)

it depends on the calibre and distance (and possibly muzzle velocity). 150mm light cruiser guns will do most damage with AP against DDs (and other lightly armoured targets), but with larger guns, the chance of overpenetrating a DD increases. So with a 200mm gun, I'd only shoot AP at DDs as long as they're more than about 6km away, and switch to HE when they get closer. 300mm and up, you're almost always better off firing HE at DDs.

That's part of the challenge for me, and why I love this game so much - heaps of things to master. One day, I'll do CVs. One day.

I'm at the Algerie on the French CA line atm, I'll drop a review on her first, since I don't have the Martel yet, and she just got her armour fixed.

The Charles is an incremental advance over Algerie, just an extra gun, a bit quicker and better armor.

I'm honestly excited for the Cleveland. Can't wait to see what mischief I can get up to with radar.

Perfect setup for hunting dd‘s, immune to their tricks, massiv aa and great load of bullets, i use dispersion, acceleration and steering for being the dd hunter, and aa support for skirmish etc.. edinburgh is my t8 smoke ca but honestly cleve is more fun.. played 7matches random won 7 @56k dmg avg.. the t7 i used auxil armament in 1. slot, just to do little bit more but anything is good here, not a long/hard grind.. Started to grind russian ca now cause they are annoying he spammers but we will see.. stopped the french at t7 .. somehow didnt enjoy it

I'm trying the Algerie atm, and after La Galissionnaire, I'm not feeling her. I'll do a review soon, and then probably put her into the "git gud" bucket, while I'm grinding more fun things. Soviet CAs were HE spammers before it was cool. If I'm in a BB, and I get fired at by a Shchors or Chappy at max range, I disengage. Bloody hard to hit, and they'll burn you down soo quickly.

I haven't played IJN BBs in ages. Will have to get back to that, actually (someone asked about Yama, that's a worthy goal). Last I remembered, armour was garbage, speed was meh, guns were ok. But we'll get to that :)

Fuso and nagato are very good ships for random matches, they can deal with a lot of situations and come out winning if done right

@@nathanandrews9019 ah, right. Khutuzov is a great HE spammer - basically a Chapayev with better torps, AA and a single smoke. Chappy should do the trick, though - even with improved torps, you mostly just stay at range and set everything on fire.

The funny part is when Nürnberg players don't know how to player her effectively, and try to close the range to torp me. Her 150mm AP could have hurt quite a bit, and there was no way they were ever going to catch a light cruiser with sonar using torps.

Cleveland’s behind islands are the bane of my Bismarck.

I was curious what you can do with a Brooklyn when you're _not_ hiding behind an island (since that's the obvious intent, but dependent on a) there being an island in the right place to hide behind it, and b) the enemy being accommodating to stay on the other side of it. Especially around late game, when enemy ships are lower on health, you can play her more aggressively as well.

Nathan Andrews I like to play a little to aggressive and I have a bad habit of rushing battleships in my Cleveland, it sometimes works out but not always.

I know what you mean, I often call it defensive AA (just because I'm so used to the term from PC videos). Yes, it's most effective when the CV is focusing you, but most CVs know better than doing that. I've got four of them in the Brooklyn, and as a support cruiser, I'm happy to use them in combo with the AA fields of the ship I'm supporting. Ideally, I try to get "under" the incoming wave, so I can trigger the skill once my AA opens up, and get both short-range and long-range to hit the planes as they come and go. But even if I just manage to get the long-range AA to bear, it can still be worth it - every torpedo bomber shot down is one less chance of flooding, and it's not just my AA, but other ships' AA as well, so our combined power can often bring down some more planes.

gladly, once I get there :) I've unlocked the IJN BB line only until the Nagato atm. Funny enough, it was my very first line to play (back in the day, when we only had USN, IJN and Russian / Soviet cruisers. But then came the German cruisers, and I haven't really looked back.

you mean around 14:32 ? The problem here was that the Algerie and the Lyon had broken through A, and were outflanking us, while we have failed to break through C. So we got into a crossfire - dealing with that was top priority for me, since they'd have free shots into our backs. I expect a BB to be able to deal with a lone cruiser. For me, the game got lost the moment we lost both flanks. On this map, you have to hold one of the flanks, and ideally the middle, otherwise you get crossfired, to devastating effect. When we noticed the enemy pushing both A and C (around 12:55 ), we had to hold C, but the Gneisenau yolo'd, and we failed on that task. Then at 14:32, after I had dealt with the Pensacola, the enemy Gneisenau flanked through C despite us having two cruisers there, and we were effectively surrounded.

A video I'd love to see is an explanation of terms people use but never explain. Kiting, bow tanking, YOLOing, terms like that (with video if possible!). It's confusing to a lot of people I bet.
