This actually explained a lot I have been wondering in up tier battles. Namely shikishima, she has massive alpha damage but I have rarely achieved that except with citadels. Now I understand better why. I’m always at max range because she can out range almost everyone.

Assuming that I trust your math, which I do, that is a really clear & helpful set of demonstrations. I had a pretty good understanding from your earlier explanation, but this one really nailed it. Thank you, Terry! One thing Wargaming doesn’t seem to do is clearly indicate the exact spot where the citadel hit takes place. I understand that multiple shell hits might make it difficult to show during gameplay, but, in your citadel hit in the last example, it looks like it occurred at the bow which seems unlikely.

In the citedel screen shot there is a hit that is -768. That does not correlate with a full/semi/over pen or bounce values.

Hello Terry, great educational video as usual. I am looking forward to more of these videos about game mechanics. One question, it may have slipped your attention but at the first close-range salvo (approx. 9:30min into the video) it shows a damage number of 768. Any idea what this could be? Seems like 75% of the alpha damage. Thanks and keep the great content up

Great information for everyone. I love that you have confirmed what many were thinking about with real numbers. Would you be willing to do this again with SAP and HE shells? There are subtle differences in these shell types that are worth highlighting ( and would provide useful information ).
