Excellent fish-frying tips, thank you. Especially the tip about letting the fish cool down a little in a strainer instead of on paper towels. No doubt that keeps the fish nice and crisp instead of it turning soggy from the 'sweat'. I'll do that next time!

I discovered Louisiana fish fry mix a few years ago, I saw it at Walmart and tried it out. It's really good stuff, sticks to the fish well without egg wash and double-dipping. I like your method of breading the fish in a bowl, you get even coating and it doesn't come off when you're frying it. I hate coatings that come off, it dirties up your oil and the uncoated fish gets tough when fried. It works great for any fish and it's easy to use for shore lunches/camping too. I caught a mess of crappie yesterday through the ice, going out for more in a couple of hours, and they're going to be fried just like this tonight. I enjoy your videos, looking forward to watching more.

Best stuff on the market. While visiting Louisiana once on a fishing trip, our host cooked trout fillets for us as follows. The same seasoning mix that your using but as follows. Dry the filets (paper towel) and place them in bowl and add (depending on the amount of fish) a small amount of mustard and a couple of splashes of Louisiana hot sauce. Stir all of it together to lightly coat the fillets and then dip them (just as you did) in the seasoned mix. Everything else is the same as you are doing it. Outstanding flavor!!

I'm a Cajun. That's the method the wife and I use when pier fishing for 3 days at a time - we simply fry fish in an iron skillet directly on the portable charcoal BBQ pit. People ask what we are fishing for and I say Catfish, here taste.. they will take a bite and stay fishing for the rest of the day trying to recapture that goodness!

Love me some crappie fillets, and I use that same breading sometimes too! In a pinch we go 1 part flour, two parts cornmeal, add some salt, cayenne, onion powder, etc. but as for store bought breading, I prefer just what you’re using there. Ha ha, watching this your voice turned on my Alexa! Those are some nice fillets man. Delicious. Great tip on the strainer! Never seen that before! Great tips, you’re gonna help a lot of people with this video.

No need for milk and eggs those are a waste. I've done this with fish and I've worked restaurants where a water bath and seasoning mix is used for frying shrimp. A Cajun myself we learn to slather a thin layer of mustard on the fish before coating to give it some needed thickness if desired and it adds a nice color too. That's the method the wife and I use when pier fishing for 3 days at a time - we simply fry fish in an iron skillet directly on the portable charcoal BBQ pit. People ask what we are fishing for and I say Catfish, here taste.. they will take a bite and stay fishing for the rest of the day trying to recapture that goodness!

best ive seen on you tube. I appreciate how you don't use milk and egg wash as it destroys the flavor of the crappie. ive been doing it this way for 30 years and its by far the best. You can also just use flour salt and pepper or 50 50 flour cornmeal salt and pepper. Instant sub from me sir

I agree with your video 99.99% but i found out that if u press the fish on both sides in the coating you will get more use of the fish batter in stead of shaking...i cook my fish at 320 to 330 degrees for 6 minutes.... also i use the lemon flavor coating with fillet swai fish both u can buy at walmart.... i tried the lemon flavor with other fish gilletd but i just didnt work as well with swai..... thanks for ur video.... also i remove as much moisture as i can.... and also i coat the fish twice the second coating is right before i fry the fish because the 1st coating soaks up moisture and the second coating seals the 1st coating.... thanks for the video u dont get a thumbs up u get 2 forks up see ya

If i'm cooking a whole bunch of fish i'll put the done fillets on a cookie drying rack in the oven on the lowest setting so everybody can eat at the same time. I give the oldest fellas the fresh fried ones. And everybody else gets whats in the oven. They all really taste the same. The cookie rack keeps them from soaking in the grease.

@@Deecrappie You're welcome, much deserved. What I learned is we have been overcooking our fish.... We pull them out when the color is right, that's evidently too late. When you pulled your fish from the fryer, they looked a little too light.... but a few minutes later they had darkened. They looked perfect. I guess it makes sense that the fish continue to cook a little as they cool down. Steaks and prime rib continue to cook, why wouldn't fish? We use Zatarains Fish Fry, have you tried it? Great idea with the strainer, I hate when you cook a lot and the ones on the bottom soak up additional grease
